Is The Halloween Event Too Pricey?

I am disappointed that I can not participate in the halloween event because I am not comfortable with spending a lot of money on the game. Currently the only way I can get the heirloom for Lifeline is through this event (I could be wrong about this.) but in order to get all of the items for the heirloom I have to spend 700 apex coins per halloween pack. The normal apex pack is only 100 apex coins, this is a 600% increase in the price. The apex packs in normal matches can be earned from the battle pass and from challenges. But the event packs can only be obtained via apex coins. Sadly I will not be able to obtain any of these really cool items, maybe in the future the devs will implement a battle pass, or a ladder system for achieving things for the event.

What are your thoughts on the event?

Do you feel that it is expensive?

Do you have any ideas on how this could be improved for the future?

I make roughly $1400 a month not including bills, and luxuries.

I want to know what other people are thinking about the event, please do not be hostile towards anybody otherwise the thread will be taken down, this is strictly for exchanging thoughts, ideas, and teaching.

Hehe no worries, Im not frustrated at all. I usually just bring up the phone and partake in discussions while Im at the toilet to pass time=)

And I, like most of us, have of course no real insight in Apex reasoning for the pricing of cosmetics. I just base my point of view on basic market principles, which is a little bit complicated since we are talking about a market of a non-rival, excludable good (the number of consumers doesn't decrease the supply but you have to pay for it).

But my main point is that demand of a good corresponds to how high they can price it, right? And who knows; maybe Respawn did overprice it terribly. Maybe their pricing doesnt correspond at all to the willingness to pay, thus they lose money. But who am I to say that? Apex sits on all the information and  statistics of their sales. We can only speculate and frankly, I think its rather arrogant and clueless when people claim they know what the correct pricing is. Based on what? Their gut feeling?

All I see is people who argument basically is (if you simplify): "The price for something that I really, really want is too high for ME, one single customer of the entire market, to pay. This means that Respawn priced it to high for everyone on the market"

Cant they see how contradictory it is? The reason for this entire discussion is based on how high in demand cosmetics is for many people, so ofc the price will be high. Imao, its just childish to try to make Respawn the bad guys, and its even more childish to do the whole "Lower the prices or I UNINSTALL"-routine =)

  • @Babbediboopi Thanks for the response, I completely agree, and you actually helped me get a better understanding as to the possible reasoning behind this. I made the post angry, so I need to go back and revise my original statement when I get off work, so I can better articulate my thoughts on the subject.

Thank you for your insight! 🙂
  • @Babbediboopi Well first of all, I didn’t point out any other issues but one.

I merely pointed out what dotst1 had said ,was correct about the developer comments and people like you will still defend Respawn/EA. That respawn had called people who spend 100+ dollars and supported them, freeloaders and D-word for wanting low prices of in game junk. That’s a problem. You don’t call your consumers freeloaders ,D-word,and A-hats.

Now if asking the devs/EA to price their in game items better makes people “cry babies”, than you got issues kid and no amount of conversation will straighten things out. Especially when I haven’t complained about the price in this thread but said the devs won’t see another dime from me over their comments alone.

So go cry in corner about how other people are crying, cause that’s all you’re good for.
    Later kid.

    @WastelandSociety

I dont defend Respawn/EA per se. I defend that any market of a good will have a certain pricing of a good.  The price is set based on how much the market as a whole is willing to pay for the good, so consequentially, there will be a certain part of potential consumers who are NOT willing to pay said price.

And btw; those comments weren't official statements from Respawn. It was a couple of individuals who work at Respawn who used those terms on redit. And Respawns CEO officially apologized for those comments. So I think its just pathetic how you try to use that as some kind of leverage for your argumentation. So when you build your argument like this: "Respawn officially branded their customers freeloaders among other bad things, and now they have the oddacity to price their cosmetics above my price range, HOW DARE THEY", your logic is flawed before you even began.

You say they should price it "better". What do you even mean by that? Better by what comparison? So you can afford it on your weekly allowance haha? Dont use the term "better". Be honest and use the word that you really mean, i.e. "lower", because NOTHING any of you have contributed to this discussion even gives the slightest proof that a lower price would be "better".

  • @addarandombutton It is now the System Override Event.. it still costs 16 800 Coins to get all 24 apex packs to get the "free" heirloom. There is obviously a lot of work that went into the design animation as well as the new legendary skins available.. it looks amazing.. But you're asking me for R2300 of South African currency.. you ask this every 2 - 3 months at least once or twice during every season .. and I almost.. almost considered getting the packs until i had this thought come through.. R2300 is almost the entire salary of most minimum wage workers ... R2300 can get you 2 new ps4 controllers.. or even one customized scuff controller or what ever and still have money over for extras.. 2300 is almost twice the amount of what most AAA title games sell for at release.. infact secondhand ps4s are selling for 2500 to 3000.. for 2300 I can get a new ps4 controller and 2 decent games such as Witcher GOY with all expansions.. or even just 3 relatively new title games .. not to mention this without the PS store specials and discounts often going on.. now you're asking me .. to spend that money that can do all this above.. in order to get some cool cosmetics.. for a game that while i seriously enjoy, makes no real difference to game play (otherwise it would be unfair), no single player or campaign mode.. and when the game has it's eventual death via player base shifting to the next best thing or the game servers shut down because of whatever reason .. I now have nothing to show for any of it.. infact you ask of us that we do this almost regularly .. there has been 4 of these main events not counting mini events .. that's almost R10 000 you have priced these events at.. in essentially a year .. that when you shut down .. we just wave good bye to.. once the servers shut down we can no longer play the game or even see the skins we've purchased let alone play with them.. I'm not saying give them away.. but if the event could cost as much as what maybe a new game would cost instead.. I think you would get far more positive response in purchases which should more than cover the difference you'd make regularly.. I was seriously considering buying the 6000 coin pack from apex to buy the 10 apex pack skins before I realised that I would actually need more than double that.. to which I just kinda decided against spending anything rather..

As of typing this.. Doom eternal and cyberpunk 2077 together cost less than one apex event .. 2 games that are eagerly awaited.. cost less .. than essentially a cosmetic bundle purchase... .. 2 Full games.. less than .. an apex event... not even DLC or anything "extra"
