- @Kazer13 Respawn's, and they've made a statement about how they were going to revert that change.
You can read the statement here: https://x.com/PlayApex/status/1816156552396734859
Also, https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Feedback/Notice-Info-About-S22-s-Battle-Pass/m-p/13940075#M114062 @Midnight9746 seems a little... Meh... There are still things locked behind a pay wall, that you can still only get if you pay real money for them. all the legendary Legend skins, except for Smooth Rider are still locked under Premium+ you can't get Premium + without paying real money till September... It was a crap and greedy decision, which they only partially backed up on. Respawn (though I'm willing to bet it's more EA) should be ashamed of themselves with this.
- @Kazer13 atleast you can earn the standard battle pass for free with challenges.. would have never thought that would be possible under EA...
@Kazer13so we get the first free BP ever and you guys still manage to complain ? i've no words.
unless you're just trolling i don't get it.@OnclePicsmurf I'm not trying to complain about the challenges unlocking the BP (Though let's be honest, the only reason they did that was because people complained.) I'm complaining because there are still things locked behind paywalls for ACTUAL money. I've got over 1200 apex coins saved up. (Because I always save the apex coins I get from the previous season to buy the BP for the next season, but now I can't do that, if I want the whole BP, I have to spend actual cash on it.)
- @Kazer13 there you have it, that`s the answer to your question. They want you to buy every BP, not only one, to get all others for free.
@II-LAZZARUS-II Obviously, that wasn't my question, my question was who at Respawn thought that they could just do that and not face the massive backlash that they inevitably did.

I don't want to take anything away from your frustration with battle pass, but of all the things wrong with this game that might cause you to leave a negative review... battle pass? Not cheaters? Not smurfs? Not the horrific matchmaking? Not the broken duel wielding? Anything? Anything at all besides "the price of my FREE game is too high?" - @reconzero No... It's not that it's "too high" It's that "It costs actual money, and only actual money." You can't use Apex Coins like you used to be able to do with literally every season.
But let's look at what you say I should be complaining about...
Cheaters... Well, firstly I should say, I don't notice a lot of players cheating, probably because, if I lose a fight, my first thought isn't "Well they had to be cheating" it's usually "Well, they just played better than me", because I don't have an over bloated opinion of my own skill, I still do alright, but I'm not John Wick. Though, if you play on consoles and turn off crossplay, cheats all but vanish. Also, Respawn didn't *DECIDE* to put cheaters in the game.
Smurfing, you can't really do anything about smurfing, you can't stop new accounts being made, so there's no way to stop people doing it, smurfing is a pointless thing to complain about. Respawn literally can't do anything to stop it. Again, Respawn didn't DECIDE to put smurfs in the game.
And, maybe I'm the only one who plays who doesn't complain about the matchmaking, again, I think this has more to do with me not putting blame for loses on other people and taking the blame myself, but... I've really not noticed whats so bad about the matchmaking... I mean, I play for about 2-3 hours when I play, and in that time I get to top 5 most matches, top 3 a little bit less than that, but still pretty often, and then win 1-3 matches a session... So I don't really see how the matchmaking is bad.
Broken duel wielding... This I don't understand... Why is the duel wielding broken? I assume we're talking about the P2020 and the Mozam...But I can't figure out what's broken about it...
So... In conclusion...
I don't really know what's wrong with my complaint about the DECIDING to try and force people to fork over real money, and only after being called out by fans, them putting in the option to unlock MOST* of the battlepass for free. It was scummy.

"It's not that it's "too high" It's that "It costs actual money, and only actual money." You can't use Apex Coins like you used to be able to do with literally every season."
So it used to be free and now it costs money... sounds to me as if you're saying the price is too high. But maybe I missed something there.
Like I said, it isn't that I don't think this should frustrate you. But it's as if you're walking out into the street and a guy comes at you with a knife, another one steals your wallet, and a third burns your house down. And you're worried about how you look. Or maybe this is one of those things where I'm unfamiliar with what you actually get from the battle pass. Is there an aim bot in there that I don't know about? Do you get to opt out of the Smurf lobbies when you reach 100? Feel free to sell me on this one.
In the mean time it sounds as if you're saying that you either can't tell the difference between a good player and a cheater, or that you're not in the kinds of lobbies where cheaters typically play. Or that cheating doesn't matter since there's nothing anyone can do about it. If it's any of those then we'll just have to agree to disagree. If it's something else then I'm all ears.
I can't do anything about smurfing. You can't do anything about smurfing. The developer can easily do something about it but refuses to for twisted reasons of their own. And that's sad. Not to mention wrong. It's something we all pay a price for. Even you. Whether you realize it or not.
On the subject of duel wielding, "broken" may have been a strong way of putting it. But I think it's fair to say that it represents a substantial change to the game, as opposed to incremental change (something the developer used to be known for). I get that they think they need big shake ups to keep kids interested. I just think it was too much change all at once. You're free to disagree. But you already knew that.
"I don't really know what's wrong with my complaint about the DECIDING to try and force people to fork over real money, and only after being called out by fans, them putting in the option to unlock MOST* of the battlepass for free. It was scummy."
I actually said, in so many words, that there's nothing wrong with calling out the change. Especially in light of the fact that the call out, made by many others as well, resulted in positive change. Kudos. I'm not sure that I would call Respawn "scummy" for looking to make money off a game they gave you for free. I might, in a certain mood, be tempted to qualify your argument as "entitled," but I'm not because you're essentially making the same argument that I just made about the weapons: too much change all at once instead of small, digestible amounts of change. But what I WAS saying is that dealing with cheaters is important. Dealing with bad matchmaking is important. Making good design decisions is important. What is there in a battle pass that makes the game better, more playable, more user friendly? If it's important to you then it's important. But objectively, is it really important? What role does battle pass play in the over all health of the game? Other than to provide income to the developer? What are you getting in exchange for your cash or your apex coins? These are rhetorical questions, but also, they're kind of not.
