Million dollar idea for In-game Exchange Market
The game has more than 2 years now, and there are tons of cosmetic items around that new player will never be able to buy because the current in-game shop does not allow it.
So, I'm here with an idea that can help all players get all the items they want, while at the same time EA/Respawn can make a ton of money in the exchange:
New In-Game Exchange Market will work as follows:
- All items in the apex account can be put on sale in the market
- Prices can be set on crafting metals, hairloom shards, or Apex coins
- The owner of the item decides which of the previous
- In the end, everything can be bought with Apex Coins
- Market will have a fee, which will be kept by EA/Respawn (say 10%)
- When taking 10% of hairloom shards, that cap (of every sale) also go to the market and be purchased with Apex Coins
- When taking 10% of crafting metals, that cap (of every sale) also go to the market and be purchased with Apex Coins
- Legend tokens can be put on the market too
- these are easily won just by leveling up, so i guess their price could be really low. But for those new to the game, may be interesting to acquire unique recolors of legendary skins, which in the end could be bought with Apex coins.
- again, when respawn/ea takes their 10% share, that cap (of every sale) can go to the market and be purchased with Apex Coins
- Like in every market, if no one wants to get rid of their stuff, prices can go up and EA/Respawn can put the required items for sale using Apex coins, just the way it happens now.
- Event items can still be "unique" and only be put for sale by players when the event ends, say a month after the end to avoid speculation.
Improvements to the current market system:
- You can make much more money just by attending to 1 basic concept of economy: "consumer willingness to pay"
- Get rid of everything that limits the consumer to pay for what they are willing to pay, so for example:
- Event items are currently accessible by "gambling" on apex packs.
- This is ok while consumers are willing to risk their money on X number packs, but when the risk money is gone and they still don't get what they want, they don't risk anymore. This is basic economic science (only compulsive gamblers defy this law, and we don't want to teach this to our young ones right??). Willingness to pay is gone, and they cannot pay for the actual item they wanted because the system does not allow it.
- A perfect example of this was this 2021 Halloween event.
- Use the "willingness to pay" to let people buy Apex coins to get exactly what they need, while making gambling attractive enough to risk money on it.
- Careful numbers need to be studied, but say you can let people buy skins with coins or metals, whereas gambling "may" be cheaper (this was kind of right on bloodhound's event).
- Get rid of everything that limits the consumer to pay for what they are willing to pay, so for example:
I know it wont be easy to make, but i strongly believe in economics and I know it would be worth the effort, giving the game the money injection that it needs while at the same time players can enjoy a much more accesible way to get new items.
