I have dug into this matter. This practice actually violates the following EU laws:
Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (2005/29/EC)
Digital Content Directive (2019/770/EU)
Consumer Rights Directive (2011/83/EU)
Unfair Contract Terms Directive (93/13/EEC)
(copy-paste from another forums post that I'm making)
SUMMARY
During the Apex Legends x Cyberpunk event, I purchased the Mythic Alternator "Skippy" and upgraded it to Level 3 (including the ordnance). After the event ended, the entire upgrade interface disappeared. I can no longer purchase the remaining upgrades — the finisher, the remaining color variants — despite owning the base Mythic skin and having Exotic Shards to spend.
This is not how any other Mythic weapon or Heirloom in Apex Legends works. Every other Mythic allows you to upgrade at your own pace through the Exotic Store indefinitely. Skippy was presented through the exact same interface with no distinction.
THE DISCLOSURE PROBLEM
At no point during the purchase flow — not on the Mythic Store page, not on the individual item purchase screen, not during checkout — was I told that the upgrade path would be removed after the event.
The only place this limitation appears is inside a separate "Event Info" sub-menu, accessible via a small button in the bottom corner of the Event page. You have to voluntarily open it. It is never surfaced to the player during browsing or purchasing. Meanwhile, the actual purchase screen for Skippy upgrades reads:
"Puppy Loving Pacifist Skippy customizations are purchasable with Exotic Shards."
No asterisk. No time limit mentioned. No "during event only" caveat.
WHY THIS MATTERS
I spent real money to acquire this skin. I was actively spending more to upgrade it. I had every reason to believe — based on how every other Mythic in the game works and what the purchase screen told me — that I could continue upgrading after the event at my own pace.
Instead, I now own an incomplete Mythic weapon with no way to finish it. The finisher is part of the weapon's upgrade tree, not a separate cosmetic. It is part of the product.
For those in the EU, this raises serious concerns under the Unfair Commercial Practices Directive (2005/29/EC), which specifically prohibits misleading omissions — withholding material information a consumer needs to make an informed purchase decision, especially when the medium used (an in-game store) makes it easy to present that information but the trader chose not to.
WHAT I AM ASKING FOR
1. Restore the upgrade path for players who already own the base Mythic Skippy, either permanently or on a recurring basis.
2. If restoration is not immediate, provide an official timeline for when owners can access their remaining upgrades.
3. Going forward, display time-limited restrictions directly on the purchase screen — not buried in a separate menu.
I want to keep spending money on Apex. I was literally in the process of doing so. But I cannot support a system that removes access to parts of a product I already bought without telling me at the point of sale.
