Please make Caustic traps go away outside of ring

While playing ranked my team almost died and I myself was knocked because a random caustic's traps were left in a tunnel as we were trying to get back in zone. The combination of stun and health damage plus zone damage (in zone 2) meant that it was impossible to survive. The caustic was nowhere near where we were and the traps were outside of zone. There's no reason for the traps to still be there and its just grief when the stay there. I believe the same should be true of wattson fences. Other legends' abilities disappear outside of zone so why don't these?

Caustic traps should absolutely stay alive outside of zone. It's an effective ring defense.

If I am playing Caustic and hold a position between a squad and the ring, I'm absolutely going to trap ingress points to press the advantage I've earned by positioning myself properly. Same thing with Wattson's fences, or even dropping Rampart walls to hinder progress in such a way that when I fire at them through ring, they amplify damage.

Ring defense is an absolutely vital tactic when it becomes available, and Legends that can accentuate it further should not be nerfed for it.

  • @NullEffective9 Eh Caustic doesn't really "need" the ability to use his traps outside of the ring. The only situation where disappearing after 15 seconds would be an issue is if he's forced to bunker down a building outside the ring.

@N19htf0x Sorry but you earned your death. It is an especially cheap kill from the Caustic but I have no sympathy towards players that make a late rotation after the 1st ring.

Those traps likely weren't forgotten either. Its a common tactic to trap choke points when the ring is coming in. Done to give the Caustic early warning of an incoming team or a few cheap kills.

Lastly there are only 2 Legend abilities that disappear due to being out of the ring. Wraiths Ultimate and Lifeline's tactical. Those nerfs only came because what they could do was game breaking. The Caustic trick is cheap and unnecessary but far from game breaking (at this point.)

Edit: first point was supposed to be towards @BigMacAttack8u but I made a mistake.

@heme725, I just described a situation to you where he "needs" the ability to use his traps outside of the ring, and that's your response? 15 seconds is an insanely short time, especially for ring 1 or 2.

It's a "trap" and not a barrier, in that it catches you off guard. And if he's able to take advantage of a ring position to deploy traps, then he absolutely should. Trying to rationalize it as a "need" is... well, irrational. Saying that someone doesn't "need" a skill outside of ring completely negates people who know to play the ring for advantage. When you're saying that someone doesn't "need" traps outside of ring, what you're really saying is that people shouldn't be further punished for poor positioning outside of ring.

@NullEffective9 Oh no if you read the rest of my post I actually agree with your stance. In my reply I picked your name instead of Bigmac's by mistake. He implied losing this trick would be a massive nerf to Caustic which would mean its a necessary gimmick. I'm fine with Caustic being able to do this and a big fan of punishing players that rotate late or hot drop.

@heme725 I think it would be very bad for caustic, as he’s already at his breaking point. The only reason I still play him, is he is a blank character. His abilities are useless, so it forces me to train my movement and gun skill. Even before I started playing caustic, my movement was horrible. Having a defensive legend, not be able to hold positioning, regardless of in ring or out, would directly contradict the purpose of a defensive legend. (I also do think caustic needs to be reclassified, as he is a mad scientist, and what mad scientist stays in a building so he can preform no tests.) I think caustic should be returned to his season 10 status, but be reclassified, so that he would be slowed by bullets, and not have reduced damage. I think that would be balance for his character. (Except some hit box changes, so he’s not a brick.)
