"Promotion" games
Why?
Just why?
It's already a grind fest as it is.
Relying on grinding your way up to then have to succeed in the next 5 games means the entire grind you've just done is a complete waste of time.

@StevoydIt can be a grind yes. Placement matches are there to get people ahead or where they belong. If you are placed in silver/gold then you just saved a huge time sink in only 10 games. That to me is a good thing not a bad thing.
I think he means the trial matches at bronze/silver/gold/plat/diamond I. They're absolutely trash. And the grind is already real and they made a knee * reaction to someone that was in the heat shield for so long just cooking up meds. You know what. that doesn't mean you should punish 90% the community that can't get a win on a whim
It's dumb as hell.
Think about it - the entire grind before the placement matches is now null and void, and completely meaningless.
In my games, I won three back to back matches before my trial games.
I then got matched with apes for all five of my trial matches making it impossible to get even top 5.
Placement/Promotion games is fine for games that DO NOT RELY ON RNG - this game you're largely impacted by your starting loot and position. Then its about whether you're in the ring or not and have to traverse large distances, and whether you come across additional players.
All of this is random chance - nothing to do with player skill.
You do not decide the flight path, you do not decide what loot is available, you do not decide where the ring spawns and who you encounter along the way.
So to place any chance of promotion on the hinge that in five games you can place top 5 in 60% of them is utterly ridiculous.
Yes they do not seem to have thought this through at all! What are they trying to achieve from this abnormal criterias as early as bronze! IF this is their way of trying to stop ratting, well, that was a really dumb way of releasing something that was not ready for release..... Like come on, what they are saying is that if you can't win a game, which is harder in current matchmaking because you meet equals or better players, then at least place top 5 which still is not easy 3 out of 5 games. Then you need to kill at least 6 players in one given game, which still accordingly to the matchmaking still really hard to do. This is expected of you as early as a bronze player. THEY ARE MENTAL
I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or sincere.
The six kills is spread across the five games - that's easy.
But unless you're playing with a pre-made team to get top 5 in 60% of the matches at "your" level is absurd - no one does this, and if everyone could win on demand, then this wouldn't be much of a game to play.
Promotion games are good imo but not how its done. The "qualification" of being promoted should be if your "skill" is higher than that of your opponents of your current rank, just like demotion should happen if your skill are worse than your current rank. The issue in the context of how amateur apex ranked is played out, especially at lower elos, is that the requirements of a win or 6 kills/assist 3 top 5 involves too much "luck" and various other factors that you, as a solo Q, cant control with your said skill. I am actually struggling to get out of bronze now on my solo Q account, even if I have 2.4 KD and 950 average damage dealt this split. Why? Because I cant carry two randoms that cant do 100 dmg before they die to top 5 placements consistently.
Yesterday, I reached and failed my promos three times during my gaming session between 10 pm and 2 am, last attempt with with 27 kills and assist of the 6 necessary but only 2/3 top 5s. This means ofc that I get a positive RP gain almost every match and reach promos super easily but as soon as I reach promos, I just cant carry my noob randoms to top 5s in 60% of the matches. To do this consistently, you need a consistently well working team. So for bronze-to-silver promotion for instance, I think the promotion requirements should look like this:
1 win
or
6 kills/asssist and 3 top 5
or
20 kills/assist
In other words; if you can get 20 kills and assist in 5 matches, you clearly are good enough too deserve to rank up. We must see solo Q for what it is and reaching top 5 in 60% of the games is a "bad" proof of higher skill that deserve promotion in the context. Perhaps can the requirement be more team based in higher elos like diamond to master promos though
