Proposal: Prohibiting Duos in Ranked Matches

Reason

・the devaluation of rank

・the complexity of the matchmaking

・the unfairness experienced by solo players

The primary cause of the devaluation of ranked play is duo boosting. The presence of duos significantly encourages boosting behavior, thereby severely undermining fairness and competitiveness.

As full parties reach Master tier earlier due to this system, there's a growing number of players who abandon ranked play prematurely. This situation inherently leads to a decrease in active participant numbers.

Indeed, in Season 25, by the end of Split 1, approximately 3% of players had already reached Master tier, 33% were in Diamond, and 22% were in Platinum. This rapid ascent is often facilitated by duos.

Expected results

・An increase in solo and full-party participants

・The party composition will be simplified to just solos and full parties, which is expected to improve both matchmaking times and quality.

・Eliminating duo boosting will help maintain the intended difficulty of ranked play, reducing early dropouts and securing a more consistent ranked participant population.

  • I don't think it will ever happen.
There should be an option like No Fill in pubs. For SolosQ, if possible, not being paired with a Duo.

Teamwork with a Duo is more complicated, sometimes just impossible.
3 Solos can be a disaster as a team most of the time, but it's more fun and fair.

  • If, out of consideration for duos, the right for duos to participate in ranked matches is to be retained as before, duos should be required to bear some form of cost.

For example, give solo players the deciding power on whether to join a duo.

Alternatively, when a duo fills with a solo player, the duo could bear half of the participation cost, effectively paying the solo player for their contribution.
