Ranked problem - Suggestion

Description: I would like to propose the addition of a new mechanic called “Zone Sickness” to the ranked mode in Apex Legends. This mechanic would make the zone more challenging and strategic, adding an extra layer of depth to gameplay. This mechanic is not new and has been used in a similar way in games such as Fortnite or Naraka: Bladepoint

Zone Sickness: The zone would work the same as before. The only difference would be that depending on what zone you're in, after a certain amount of time your healing ability would decrease to the point where you can no longer heal at all. Once you are in the "safe zone", you would have to wait a certain amount of time when healing in the zone would be possible again.

So for example:

  • Zone1 -> 45s to the point where you cant heal anymore. 30s waiting in the zone to able to heal again in the zone
  • Zone2 -> 30s to the point where you cant heal anymore. 35s waiting in the zone to able to heal again in the zone
  • Zone3 -> 25s to the point where you cant heal anymore. 40s waiting in the zone to able to heal again in the zone
  • Zone4 -> 20s to the point where you cant heal anymore. 45s waiting in the zone to able to heal again in the zone
  • Zone5 -> no healing possible in this zone
  • Zone6 -> no healing possible in this zone
    NOTE: When you use "heat shield" you can heal up. Even with 100% sickness (Heat shield does not reduce sickness. You must be in the safe zone to take it effect)
    NOTE2: So if you are in zone1 for 20 seconds, healing will be only 50% effective.
    NOTE3:
     I still think heat shields should be completely removed or very nerfed. It's almost funny how long a heat shield can be active.

Btw don't take this numbers seriously. I wrote this just to put into perspective what I was thinking.

Medkit Crafting Limit: To further enhance the importance of strategic decision-making, I suggest implementing a limit on the number of medkits that can be crafted during a match. This limit would prevent players from stockpiling an excessive number of medkits, promoting more thoughtful resource management and creating a more balanced playing field.

I believe that these changes would make ranked matches in Apex Legends even more exciting and strategic, while also encouraging players to adapt their playstyle based on the evolving zone dynamics. I don't think anything else need to have limit because nothing else will help you stay in the zone longer.

  • Limit od medkits: 4
    NOTE: If you craft medkits in one crafting station and go to the next one, all stations are linked and the limit is written to the next station. So you cannot craft more than 4 medkits even if you go to another station.

I don't want to discuss the state of ranked as such (matchmaking), because I can't think of a way to solve this.

Not that it would help extremely, but it could at least slightly help the current state of ranked.

Camping Detection:
I was thinking of maybe implementing some kind of system that would detect if you are hiding in a bush or tree. For example, if you sit in a bush for a certain amount of time, the game would warn you and if you don't come out within 10 seconds, you would get a camping penalty at the end of the game. This penalty would stack. So as soon as you got the penalty, it would reset the timer and as soon as you were in the bush again, the game would record it. I don't know how complicated this would be, but I think it would be possible to define objects that would be defined as "camping spots".
Of course people would find other spots such as pipes etc... but it would limit the number of spots to hide in.
NOTE: If you were standing in the bush the timer would not activate. This could prevent you from getting penalized by mistake.
Example:

  • 1 penalties -> minus 5 points
  • 2 penalties -> minus 10 points
  • 3 penalties -> minus 20 points
  • 4 penalties - > minus 30 points
  1. So if you get 3 penalties for camping, but finish 3rd with 5 kills, you get this number of points:
    penalty(camping: minus 30
    placement: plus 85
    elimination points: ?
    Skill points: ?
    Ratting points: ?
    Total points: 55+

What do you guys think about that? I'd like to hear your opinion on this.

  • First two points sound quite good. However, I'd be strongly against the camping suggestion.

    Let's be honest, if your a solo q player like myself at some point you'll need to camp for example when you get two team mates who throw the game. I could be on 7 kills and get team mates who run in and throw, I shouldn't really be penalised for trying to survive until end game, I suppose this is why there's legends in game to find campers such as bloodhound etc. 

    A second point I'd make on that topic, the main point of the game is to win the match, with the way ranked is now there's no point fighting until top 10 or you're just throwing 75 points away so I'm not ashamed to say I'll camp until top 10 on most occasions unless I'm contested off drop and then I'd go on the offensive. 

    Again though, you made some good suggestions just this one I'd be against for my own reasons and based on my solo q experience and playstyle.

    @DaleFox2012 Oh you right. I didn't think of that. I was thinking of doing something against people who stand in one place the whole game. I know there used to be an AFK kick feature, but I don't think that feature works in ranked anymore.
    But you're probably right that this isn't a good idea.
