Re: don't apply abandon penalty when leaving games that failed to fill up

If you start a ranked match and at any point one of your teammates disconnects, it’s basically a free match where you won’t lose any points, but still have a chance to gain points.

I just left a match after both of my teammates' banners had timed out. Although I didn't receive penalty points, I am now BANNED FOR 45 MINUTES!

Edit:

So I've just read that I can't leave a match while I'm alive - without getting a penalty for leaving.

The thing with that is, that teammates frequently become verbally abusive when they've just died. I don't want to carry on playing in those circumstances when I might end up earning points for those types of teammates.

Putting people in a dilemma where they have to carry on playing with abusive teammates or face a ban is a double-bind, and the circumstances for it shouldn't be possible. In other words, players should be able to leave a match if they themselves are alive when their teammates banners can no longer be used. This would teach teammates to be circumspect when a teammate has survived.

    @warslagSimple solution, mute them.

Another solution, throw a nade on the ground and end it all.

Did you read the bit about why I don't want to feel I'm forced to stay in a match with abusive teammates and earn them points?

Your suicide suggestion would only work as a menu option and where it doesn't affect stats, other than a specific suicide stat which should be separate to kill and deaths.

  • @warslagI still see no real issue. If you wish to leave because you are being bullied, you can always mute teammates and stick to pings the moment you hear something you don't like. I do it with annoying teammates.

If you don't wish to give them any points (which would include yourself) than a simple suicide would resolve all issues.

I understand wanting an option to leave without a penalty if you are the last one alive but consider this: You're top11. You and a teammate are having a good game with 2-3+ kills and die because of a 2v3 or 3rd party. Now the solo player is left alive and decided, "I don't wanna play anymore" and leaves. Robbing you and the other player from the Top10 RP you would have gained if he had stayed and at least tried to survive.

Penalties are due where needed aside from the rare banner pick up but never getting revived.

So why, in your opinion, do they have to suicide instead of just changing the system to allow the player to leave without penalty?

You obviously agree with me that players should leave a match if they feel threatened, so what's your issue with making a tweak to the system to allow players to leave without having to kill themselves?

Also, based on your example, it's less likely a player will leave for no reason when a team is doing really well, than if they were being verbally abused. The situation you described is kind of an irrational one in terms of a players leaving a match in those circumstances. Unless of course their teammates were going mental at him and he wished to get out of there. Which would be completely understandable and was the point I've been making, anyway.

  • @warslagI gave my reason as to why it would not be good to just change it. This world is full of trolls and people would love to just quit a game to mess with you. At that point it is like playing duos considering they do not want to proceed with the game after their teammates die. This is the same as if they had just left from the start and that is why I believe the penalty should still stand. If you do not wish to continue on an play, than take the punishment that comes with quitting early.

I provided an alternative to the bullying issue which begins and ends with a mute. If you can't hear them, they can't bother you.

    EDIT

seems we drifted off into another issues.

As far as the OP goes. You get a free game if your team Q does not fill up. Meaning that if you die right away, you take a 0 RP Loss. No real reason to leave the game but if you decide to do so than that penalty seems fair considering you were given a free game and refused to take it.

  • @warslag  The mute option is great. If your teammate banner is even visible. Half the time it isn't. I agree whole heartedly if you are the last one standing so to speak you should be able to leave.

As far as muting or not, I always have a chat party private on. And most times I am in that before I even launch a random game if I play with randoms. I honestly got sick of it months ago where the in-game lobby was garbage. The mics were bad, people eating a granola encrusted cheese * in my ear. The singing the screaming. You name it. So if you do feel like playing in an open lobby chat have a private one ready so you can bounce.

I am now in the habit if in a random game every time I am in my private chat talking when the other players mics go off. I have my own fun conversations that don't distract me from the actual fun of the game.

One last note on mics since this is off topic anyways. If you have a $400 gaming system $100 headset and $400-$100 TV/Monitor, spend 5 bucks on a 9 volt battery and fix your smoke detector.

    That is all.

No one should be forced to endure something they’re not liking.

The whole mute them isn’t going to cut it because after your done arguing with each other.

    1. It completely ruins team chemistry and cooperation
    2. If you go down you’re practically done because they’ll either troll revive or just watch you bleed out if the other person is neutral you might have a chance but if they’re friends or your friends with the 3rd person its over for them either way.

  • @SethCurryNo one is being forced to listen to someone smack talk them.

If you are unable to mute someone because you don't want to even though they aren't saying anything nice to you than you shouldn't be playing an online game. Stay offline and stick to the Training mode where no one will talk down on you. OR don't Q up solo. Simple.

    1. Team chem is already ruined by talking down to another teammate as no one will want to revive someone who's constantly saying negative comments.

2.If you go down and no one revives you, wait the timer out and leave. The amount of times people troll is extremely rare and not an excuse. The penalty does not make exceptions for tiny reasons like this. If this was a big issue where it happened almost every game or more than 30% of the time than yea sure their should be an exception but that's not the case.
