No-fill is not viable for the reason you said.
That said, @XHelperZ is right. Play unranked trios and just do your own thing with squad on mute. I know you think this is unsportsmanlike, but pubs is essentially a free-for-all. You owe nothing to no one and no one owes anything to you. You don't have to talk to them, listen to them, heck, you don't even have to drop with them. I never do. And honestly, it's because I'm the one player in all of pubs who plays to win. Everyone else is just there to mess around. And I'm okay with that. You should be too. Go for it.
