Hi, on your Challenge page there at the top there will be a bar that tracks both your in-game XP gain and the Stars you earn. 

Any time you earn match XP it will be added to the bar, as will challenge stars. The first level a week will need 9k XP, the 2nd will need 18k XP, rising by 9k each time up to a cap of 54k. 

So with the new system you'll get levels directly from the challenges, but your match XP will also go towards BP levels.
