It only does 5 damage a second for two seconds, two seconds is plenty of time to get from one end of the gas to another, I know this because I have done it, and enemies have done it to me. This is not an irregular occurrence that it only takes two seconds, it happens almost every time unless the enemy player doesn’t know how to run. The ring should have no slowing effect, the fact that you say it does, makes me wonder if you actually play. As for the placing it behind walls/ around corners, that is just smart placement. You can’t complain when a player is smart, unless the difference is drastic, in which case you should complain about matchmaking. “I don't know why you're acting like I'm some crybaby asking for a nerf. Caustic traps outside of zone offer him very little utility.” as for this, as you asked me, have you ever played this character? His traps are essential for locking down locations, blocking doors, or stoping am enemy advance. These qualities are essential when in the ring, if you can’t prevent steam from pushing you while you heal from the ring, then you die. These traps are also good for the exact thing you are complaining about, stoping an enemy from getting out of the ring. This is how caustics play, they throw gas at you mercilessly, you can’t expect someone not to be waiting around a corner. If you expect free passage out of the ring, you send yourself to a doom you made. Also as you pointed out yourself they do offer caustic ring help, you got damaged and slowed, so that offered him time to escape, if he didn’t have the ability to even place traps in the ring it would be detrimental to him. I welcome you to actually propose a valuable idea that is not just I died so pls nerf an all read horrible legend. If you really fell so strongly about this, we can have this convo over email, you can message me through this website by clicking on my name in the blue: @BigMacAttack8u if you want any more apex legends conspiracy theories debunked you can contact me there as well. I would fact check your info before you go spouting that things are unfair. Happy gaming!
And if you're going to call me a liar, please at least show some shred of proof. I've personally seen revenant's ult disappear (and faster than the ult's normal timer), and I said lifeline's drone disappears not that it disappears instantly. It's timed, like the caustic traps should be.
- BigMacAttack8u4 years agoSeasoned Ace@N19htf0x I said you’re points were misinformation, I did not call you a liar, I try not to jump to conclusions to much. As for the lifeline tactical, I was under the impression you meant instantly, as you did not expand or specify. I would recommend you report the revenant ult problem in the bugs section of the HQ, as that is not supposed to be occurring. It could also be just a misjudgment, if you were actually timing it (like clicking start and stop on a phone) it could make for a minor difference, that could be dismissed as reflex time. Only having caustic traps las 10-15 seconds after they have been placed is still a horrible idea. An example of how is: the enemy only has to wait 10-15 seconds to just chase. If it is an Octane, Wraith, Bloodhound, Valkyrie, Ash, or Mad Maggie, they could make up 10-15 seconds of time easily. Also you could only prevent a push into a building in the ring for 10-15 seconds? Typically we’ll say there are 2 doors in your average bottom floor building, and one staircase. You would need one trap per each door and one for the staircase. Caustic traps take 20 seconds to charge, a full minute to replenish what took 10-15 seconds to destroy, without even the aid of an enemy. Also what level ring were you in that a Caustic trap related death could have occurred? As for your question on what legends I play, I do mainly play caustic, but I also play a lot of Pathfinder, Octane, Bloodhound and Mirage. It would be highly unlikely for any player to play exclusively caustic, as he is not an originally free legend, he was also one of my last legends I unlocked. Also I do not feel your opinion on this topic is valid, as I assume you don’t play caustic a lot, from what I can tell in your posts. I have played many games on him, and have been with him through ups and downs since season 8. I hope you play some 20 games a caustic and realize what you are saying would have the legend become the never picked legend. As for lifelines drone, and wraiths portal disappearing, those are both abilities that offer health or ring immunity, which is a very big advantage. If being near a Caustic trap, led to fast healing and reviving, I might entertain the idea of a 10-15 second timer on that ability, but as of now it offers no ring healing or immunity powers. I do hope you spend some time to play caustic and realize how bad he is compared to other legends, even ones with lower pick rates. Pick rates mean nothing in the case of actual legends stability, as I said I have played caustic since season 8 and have not left, because I enjoy his persona more than any other legend. A lot of people used to play Caustic, because he was OP in his earlier days, now they just play him and win because they are good, and have been playing. He should revive a buff, back to where he was in season 10 rather than a catastrophic nerf. His gas traps being destructible has all ready been a heavy blow. I would suggest instead of destructible, that they be able to be move slightly with punches. I hope you found this interesting and play your 20 games, happy gaming!

Thank you for this response. I still disagree and think the traps should not last forever outside of zone, but I find your argument rooted in a much stronger foundation.
As for your comment about holding down a building, you shouldn't be holding down a building outside of zone in the first place. As I said before, when you're outside of zone
getting back in is a priority. I really don't think a change that only affects caustic's ability outside of zone will have that dramatic impact on his efficacy. But I think it will strongly improve health of the game in concern to traps. If a caustic is trying to get away from a team in a building outside of zone, my suggestion would be 10-15 second timer on his traps and he can use his traps to block a door to buy that time, yes an octane or path could chase and gain that 10-15 seconds back, but then the caustic can lay traps in his path as he goes, which if they make up those 10-15 seconds, they will hit and have to deal with the consequences of the gas (which would be particularly bad for octane).
You asked what zone it was when I encountered the caustic traps. I mentioned in my original post it was round 2, so not unreasonable to be outside working your way back in.
With respect to Wraith's portal disappearing, Its generally not useful in maintaining immunity outside of ring other than final closing. Yes, you can stay alive outside of zone, but you can't do anything. In earlier games, you have to be either healing to stay alive, using something like a heat shield to protect you while you get the last bit of loot before heading to zone, or making your way to zone. Wraith's portal trick doesn't really let you do that apart from final ring closing where just stalling a little bit gives you enough of an edge to win (which is why it was removed).
I would be willing to play Caustic for a few games if you'd be willing to hop in a squad with me. We could have a friendly discussion about it in comms while vibing on a legend I never play 🙂. DM me if your interested I'll send you my discord.- BigMacAttack8u4 years agoSeasoned Ace@N19htf0x I sent you a friend request in apex, using the above profile (@BigMacAttack8u)
