@FlV3SYes, they are leaving the games, why is that? I suppose because of the event quest which I have already mentioned. If you are doing the Escape quest, then why you should keep playing as shadow if you're focusing on the quest? Its just waste of time, from this perspective. (I think)

Apex, should encourage players or reward to stay in shadows.
To balance the game and not bored you just camp and wait for the evac-ship, because no more shadows defending.
actually the point of being shadow is if you can't get it don't let other getting it either.
this is the only event that i couldn't finish it and hence that will it last time playing any event.
There must be a system to choose at random 3 guys that start as Shadows. But this is a temporary event so they won't change anything.
They should have offered two kinds of badges from the beginning, each one for:
25 wins with shadows (Shadow badge)
25 wins with legends (Escape badge)
This way, they could keep up the motivation to play.
This event will still run for 2 weeks, people are bored already.
I've done the badge, but I still quit instead of playing shadows; it's simply not a fun gameplay loop.

@DraknasChanas soon as you become a shadow, the game is over for me.
Whats the point of being a shadow? loosing ANOTHER game?
Its a nice try for an event, but nothing enjoyable after 2 games...
