Redsec vs Apex

I tried playing some Redsec recently. Unfortunately it's not my cup of tea. I do like the graphics!!!

Anyways, I find it very interesting the amount of game modes and features Redsec has compared to Apex. For example, Redsec has visible player stats (that can be turned off if a player chooses).

Why doesn't Apex have these same features and more? 🤷‍♂️ Especially being a more popular BR under the same EA umbrella. More in-game mechanics and features would help all players understand their place in the game more precisely.

IMO, the lack of competitive features in-game is preventing Apex from reaching its upper echelon. This game could have a more robust community if there was a greater emphasis on competitive integrity, in-game mechanics, social networking, and lore.

Keeping a competitive game like Apex, with a beloved esports scene, watered down because of the lack of industry standard features will continue to hold this game back. Creating a diverse lineup of Legends and Maps hopefully won't be in vain, similar to what happened to the Black Ops 3 specialists

Essentially, Apex is a game that should be marketed to adult gamers who have and will continue to age with the life of this franchise. Why not cater to a broader audience?

I'm 41 and it's funny how some players, and maybe devs, criticize the uncs in the game when the average Legend age is 34 (excluding Rev, Pathfinder, Ash, Alter, otherwise it would be 51 - not counting Alter bc her age is unknown). The oldest human legend is Ballistic at 63, then Mad Maggie at 56, then Fuse at 55, then Caustic at 50, then Newcastle at 41, then Bloodhound at 40, then Horizon at 39, then Loba at 36, etc. My point is this game needs to grow up!!!! The teenagers and young adults are being catered to predominantly while older gamers are being forced to move on from a game that has older Legends. I'm very good with Marketing and I'm just stating the FACTS. For example, Rivals is a good comparison to Apex from a Hero perspective. Marvel and DC overall caters to their broader community through video games, TV shows, movies, etc.

I just don't understand how these facts are being missed on a daily, monthly, and yearly basis by this publisher and studio. Other studios understand, even the ones under the same publisher umbrella.

Another example is GTA6. Players of all ages are waiting for the drop.

I find it very unfortunate that the ideal of Apex 2.0 has been floating around for awhile now, but legends such as Gibraltar and Crypto do not have prestige skins, and they've been in the game since 2019. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

It took forever for Wattson to get a prestige skin. I just found out recently that some legend heirloom recolors have their own finishers, while the original heirlooms don't. Similar to how original prestige skins don't have dive trails while newer prestige skins do. 🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️ The digital content for legends shouldn't be overtly sporadic. This has hurt the game just as much as Wildcard has devalued stats and badges.

This studio/publisher took heirlooms that were meant for specific legends and made them universal, for example the sword which was obviously for Newcastle. It seems as if they didn't want digital content locked behind specific legends. Unfortunately, this mindset has delayed content for specific legends indefinitely. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️🤦

They are good at creating universal digital content 👌, but this game has a "quantity over quality" issue across the board. I really like the new RE-45 battlepass skins, but I've decided not to spend any new money on this game, because the issues are glaring.

Personally, I think more money could've been made by continuing the original digital content releases. That's how they amassed a fortune in the first place. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I think universal digital content would be great after "legend digital content obligations" are fulfilled. They should've been pushing out more legend digital content when new legends were not being introduced, but now they have a backlog. This creates more development work, not less. The only way to catch up is "development crunch" which will cost more money and is unlikely to happen.

Currently, Apex is appealing to adrenaline junkies, new players (older Fortnite players), and players who stopped playing in the early days and came back. This group of players think the game is great 👍, and if I were them I probably would too. Although, if you're an OG player who never left, this game looks much different in a negative way.

I wish I had a seat at those EA/Respawn roundtable discussions.

  • So much good advice there, though I have no doubt that none of it will happen to this game. At least not in its current form.

Almost two years ago now Andrew Wilson mentioned in an earnings call that there was a road map to an Apex 2.0 and that it would happen enough after the BF6 launch to give that game time to establish itself. And I haven't heard a single word about it since. More and more proof every day that EA thinks of Apex as a cash machine, and one that isn't even worth basic maintenance, let alone being worth the investment to rework, rebuild, and rethink the franchise. It's really kind of infuriating when you think about all the money this game has made for EA. Through FY24 this game had made $3.4 billion for the publisher. Obviously income is in decline just lately, and realistically will probably stay in decline, but it does make you wonder why Wilson can't scrounge a half a billion here or there to revitalize a game that was one of their biggest money makers.

Some people maintain their stuff, and some people just work it until it falls apart. I guess EA is the latter.
