The sad thing is that the idea was probably to have players move around more with the rings pushing them around on the map, but it blocks off and makes players gate more or just walk more to get around it.
Its just not working as the idea intended. The announcer even says "Run run run", so this supports that the idea probably is to herd us players around on the map.
From a gameplay design perspective it blows my mind that they try to funnel players into more engagements by pushing them around instead of encouragement and having more oportunities to rotate faster like randomly spawned jump pads or other mechanics to increase player speed, rotation and engagements. How about the rings would do slight heal and increase speed instead of penalizing and blocking off map areas. That would probably encourage players to attract to the rings and engage more teams. It would probably be messy, but probably more fun.
It blows my mind that a game developer can't be able to think "fun" but only think in terms of penalizing and pushing players around. Herding them like sheep.
Instead of penalizing and pushing, try encouragement and attraction. Think about it.
