Seriusly Respawn? What goes on in your mind when you design this game?

Seriously Respawn, what were you thinking when you made the design decision to have all these obstructing stupid stuff in the game?  Please remove all this BS or at least let us choose to disable it.  Look at the clip below. The enemy is hiding behind this HUGE and totally unnecessary respawn symbol that appear when you pick up a banner. Do you think we need that symbol to find my way to a respawn beacon? Dont you think the green beam thats emitted from it is enough? Seriusly, BS like this just add to the casualness and randomness to this game.  Its kinda funny that I actually try to "shake it away" when I realize he is there from my teammate on Discord.

Its exactly the same thing with the HUGE symbol that appears over a knocked teammate or over his lootbox. I dont need a 1x1 inches big symbol above my knocked down teammate that enemies can hide behind. Not as annoying but still totally unnecessary are the teammates names over their characters. There is NEVER EVER a situation where I need to know what my teammates name is during a fight. I dont know how many fights that the name made me miss shots because an enemy was exactly behind a team mates name on my screen.

Please respawn, Let us have the option to remove all that BS from the game.

  • Sorry for bumping but I cant just believe its so few that seems to be bugged by this "feature" in a modern "competitive" FPS 2019........ There is literally a full enemy squad up on that roof that keeps peaking me, which I cant see, let alone shoot back at because it.......I accepted it when Apex was just released because I thought it was such a flaw that it would got patched away asap but its still there almost a year after its release.

Assuming that Respawn at least occasionally play their own game, they must have had it up on their meetings and actively choose to keep it in the game. Why Respawn WHY?

  • @Babbediboopi Honestly Idk why thats never an issue in game for me when its clearly that big in the screenshot but when Im playing I just dont seem to notice it as much maybe the size changes based off of distance?

You do have a point. Overwatch made an update like that a few months ago this year that allowed you to remove those symbols in transparency or something. You could increase or decrease it. The lower, the less visible they were because you really don't need to know where these things are after so many years of playing.

I'm just saying, it's a good idea and Apex can do the transparency settings too. These things are always good for optional settings.

As far as I recall (don't have it installed), Apex has graphic settings for banner overlays and can be of lower transparency.

You can also make a autoexec.cfg file/command to lower it (hud_setting_pingAlpha "0.4", default is 1).

I havent thought about it before but I dont think its an issue on real close range because it seems like the icons disappear when close. Its at that semi-close/semi-mid range thats its a problem, especially when you are running towards your teammate to help and all you see is that icon =)

@MemagNeman  Yeah there is an option called Ping opacity which I have on "faded", but TY, gonna try your config suggestion and see if it helps but I think its only for pings.

I am not sure at the moment, I recall setting it too low and couldn't really see player banners/cards at all.

Try the command and test it.

Well maybe this situation was a little hard for you to comprehend so I'll explain:

When a player make pretty much all in-game decisions, for instance if you are gonna use long range or short range weapons, use an ability or throw a grenade or even the simplest of things like whether to go left or right, it usually all depends pretty much on two variables. The first one being the audio information gathered through our ears, and the second being the visual information we gather from what we see on our monitors.  We could add "gut feeling" or "game instinct" here too but since its rather arbitrary and hard to quantify, I leave that one out of the equation.

And you see, the subject of this thread was that I personally dont think the game should force us to have obstructive elements that is not really in the game environment, elements that enemies entirely can hide behind. The most important such elements are 1) the Respawn symbol that appears on nearby Respawn beacons when your team picked up a banner (see the clip), and 2) the knockdown symbol that appears over knocked down teammates (see the image).

So in this case, I more or less instinctively made the choice to use a shield cell in this particular situation, mainly based on two variables. 1) From what direction the two other enemy players of that squad (which we both just knocked) originally came from when they attacked us, which was up hill from the direction of the area called "Refinery" whereas our squad arrived to the area from the direction called "Overlook". Now in retrospective, it obviously turned out that I was wrong in this aspect since the last member of their squad, the one who knocked me down, was far ahead and had even passed The Epicenter and actually returned back to help his teammates, but maybe Im just not  as tactical advance as yourself so I failed to foresee this.

The second variable that made me use this so tactically unwise shield cell, this grave tactical error that you master spotted so well, was because of said respawn symbol that covered this last enemy squad member almost entirely. Like we established earlier, you make much of your in-game decisions based on said visuals. and because of this respawn symbol that covered said enemy, I coudnt make the most effective tactical choice. If I had spotted this enemy, hiding behind said respawn symbol, I would never had used that shield in that situation, which leads us back to the topic of this thread.

And also, the reason why I moved out from the side of the pillar was, just like I mentioned before, because my teammate on discord said the last enemy was sitting at the Respawn beacon, and I just tried to move to "get rid" of said respawn symbol, even "shake it away".

And PS, if you dont get it, Im 100% sarcastic. The topic of this post was not to debate my tactical skills, but to rise the issue of the obstructive knockdown- and respawn symbol.

Not only did you heal up in the open but you challeged a triple take with a prowler.

You challenged a sniper rifle at more than 60 meters with a smg.

Since you still dont (or pretend not to) even understand what the topic of this post is about, you clearly are either trolling or just not that bright... Pick one, but I dont care.
