Shotguns and grenades

Grenades are just fine. In fact they are a great way to do a couple of things.

Force players out of cover.

Get initial damage in before a push.

As cover for an escape/reset.

To assist in breaking an opposing teams push. 

Breaking doors.

or as a general distraction. 

Knowing how and when to use grenades is not skill less in fact using them properly takes a bit of skill.

Avoiding being in a position to be naded especially repetitively is a skill that has to be learned as well.
