I don't claim to be a network expert, but if having other players on a server, that are at a far GEO Location, that would introduce lag, then of course this is not a good idea.
But I will say, I've played on gaming servers in the past, as someone with lower pings, in a farther GEO relation to the other players and servers, and I wasn't introducing lag into the game by playing it.
From what I've come to understand, if players had lower pings, they shouldn't be introducing lag into the server.
Most players if their pings aren't good won't be able to play on the other servers, or they won't want to play is sort of the point.
If the GEO restriction is a better idea, so be it, but this could be easily circumvented with a VPN.
You get it wrong. High ping player don't lag the server, but they have some advantage against you, low ping player because of lag compensation.
Sound funny right?
300ms player vs 24ms player: 24ms player will see and shoot 300ms player first but 300ms player is actually not there yet cuz he's lagging behind. As a result, 24ms player misses his shots
24ms player is low on HP, so he run and hide at the corner successfully. But the game compensate the lag , so the server use his location from 1 second ago to send to 300ms player. 300ms player still able to see, shoot and finish 24ms player. It becomes "get killed behind corner" kind of kill.

You make this sound even worse...
Now I have the answer to why I die behind closed doors...
Its the high ping players first they lag and you can't shoot them, then every one of their shots hit cause of lag compensation...
So now I have to degrade/ lower my internet connection to play this game?
Is this the future of gaming?

I understand how this works that you mentioned.
I was only talking about players with bad pings that cause them lag, therefore they won't want to play on the servers...
Don't beat yourself up and worry about it! The only thing you can control on your end, is making sure you have a decent connection and speed, and of course, you always want to play with the lowest pings, to give you the fastest and smoothest game play, this is all you should worry about... 😉
You don't need to degrade or lower anything, if the gaming company servers we are playing on are setup properly, then as long as you have a decent internet connection/speeds, you should be getting optimal pings.
Of course there are those that live in very remote parts of the world that have to take many hops across servers, across the world, that would cause them to always have higher pings.
GEO Location, and the Internet Backbone you travel across, to connect to the world also plays a part. So if you have the choice of several ISP to choose from, there is always the possibility that one provides better routing...
Bottom line; if you don't live out in the middle of no where, have a decent connection, with a fairly decent ISP and Backbone in the country you live, then you should be pretty good to go. One last thing, make sure you also have a decent Router, and I don't recommend playing over WiFi, play Wired!
We're also suppose to be able to switch between Data Centers on the Game, so you can pick different servers.

Playing on high ping is almost as good as cheating ... they keep teleporting and hitching and you can't land a shot while they can because of how the game currently work ...
The cheater doesn't care about anything including high ping as they will still wipe out everyone so I don't think this would solve anything but only create problems for those who play there in fair manners
