Skill-based matchmaking has a negative effect on the game-experience

"Skill-based matchmaking"

I want to say that I haven't enjoyed a game more than Apex Legends until the so called "Skill Based Matchmaking" came out.

Apex is my first BR game after playing Uncharted 3&4 and Battlefield 1 and was really eager to get better by learning movement and when to push/not to push people. Yes, I had a hard time in the first season, but in the 2nd season I got better and better and this season I got to Predator in 3 weeks. If I want to play against players who have similar skill, I play ranked. If I wanted to chill a bit and have a good time without getting 4th partied I played pubs, until this skill based matchmaking came out.

-It's not rewarding to get better in the game anymore, as you are getting queued up with more sweaty people the better you get.

-It doesnt affect anything, besides the true sweatlords are going to make smurfaccounts to dominate the easier lobbies.

-qeue-times are increased now

-sometimes the servers are trash, because the focus is on playersmatching instead of servermatching

-This afternoon I played like 15 games, without getting a single(!) level 100+ as a random, with not even relateable banners comparing with mine (I am level 114 atm with 4k badges and 20k badges), while I have to fight fully decked squads who do have those stats. I honestly don't know the actual reason why Respawn implemented the skill-based matchmaking, but I notice that the game isnt as fun as it used to be anymore for me.

Yeah, I know, who cares that 1 guy doesnt like the game anymore, but just wanted to see how your opinions are on this subject.

  • you’re definitely not the only one who dislikes SBMM, all the youtubers and pro players are raging atm

me on the other hand, i don’t mind the SBMM as a general idea of creating an equal playing field, however there seems to be something really wrong with it in Apex - as you have pointed out yourself, your teammates are usually nowhere near your own stats while the opposition seems often way above....and i honestly have hard time seeing how exactly this is ‘skill based’
