There are many thing to consider
- whether match making is a good idea (I think it's good)
- how to measure skill
- MOST IMPORTANTLY how it is implemented
How it is implemented can change everything.
While all this discussion is mostly moot since the Apex dev team probably already have an opinion and a plan of doing (or NOT doing) anything....
I will suggest a possible implementation which would have little downside and bring some benefits.
If instead of waiting for 60 players for a match, the server wait for 300 people, queue time will probably multiply by 5 at most, i.e. 25 seconds instead of 5...
Then it could group people into newbie (level less than 20) and then order then by average weapon accuracy. and then slice evenly the sorted set. This will be quick while being loosely skill based and still having game with very good player and bad player together once in a while, which seems very dear to some.
Get a grip. The time to put solos in was yesterday when the hype was still high. The player base is going to drop like flies. I've gotten to the point where I log in now and play five rounds, two of which are player-dropout abortions, two of which are rookie suicide runs and one of which involves getting steamrolled by Shroud and two Shroud clones.
I'm not unique in this, I'm certain. Even on mike everyone I talk to seems to be getting more and more depressed about what this game could be BUT ISN'T.
