Solos are also important because new players learn a lot more playing that way.
When you're starting out you engage some guy at 100m and then 5 seconds later a different character appears behind you and shotguns you in the back. The faster players get all the loot and you either have to choose to lag behind them (death) or run with the first gun you picked up with no extra ammo.
This is completely upside down. Experienced players will carry noobs so they can learn without being immediately slaughtered every time. Getting shot from behind while shooting at distance is exactly what happens in every solo BR because there are way more individual enemies which are way harder to spot and track than a few squads which in turn leads to a meta all about stealth.

Solo lets you pace yourself and learn something from every loss at least. Lets you learn the character skills without compromising your team by accidentally doing something stupid like calling in artillery while having no idea what the AOE is.
If you let everyone know you're noob every decent person will be fine with it. As long as you don't do anything stupid like freaking everyone out by test-firing weapons when there's a shooting range for that.
Once again, this solo push appears to be the just about the least rational solution to the problems people deem it would solve.
Don't like playing with randoms? Argue for a better friends system.
Have trouble learning the basics? Argue for a better training mode where you can test every character and all the gear.
There's no need to mutate the game into something it was never meant to be just because you have some specific issues with it.
Don't like team-based games in general and prefer playing solo? Well you're in luck then there's a lot more good solo games out there than team-based, especially single player. I'm mostly a single-player gamer myself and I can't even find time to play through all the good stuff I have in my Steam library (most of it bought on sale) not mention all the new games coming out.
