Died multiple times to this just because I'm watching something and there is literally no audio playing despite there being an enemy extremely close to me. Was hiding once and had an enemy sprint past me and I heard NOTHING. Had a guy literally drop behind me and kill me but I heard nothing.

So my sound setup has changed. I used to have Xonar DGX + Sennheiser Game One headphone.
Now I have Burson Audio Playmate Vivid DAC/AMP + Hifiman Sundara headphones and HyperX Resolver headphones.
The issue is STILL there. See videos below (these are examples from Season 4 but I used to have a lots of them...)
Videos:

The footsteps are not playing at all when enemy is behind me, yet I clearly hear my teammates' footsteps. This is clearly disadvantage for people like me who heavily relies on audio cues.
Moreover, the sound quality and positional audio is atrocious - just watch the video above and tell me where the enemies and teammates are based on sound only... You can't.
Especially check the last one where You can clearly notice that if enemy is behind me there is no footsteps audio but once he is in my view I can hear them clear and loud !
I just watched TSM_Viss being killed by Watson that approached him from the back without any sounds. He even mention is. Hopefully someone clipped that as the stream is still live as I am writing this.
PLEASE FIX IT !

Do you think it's plausable the players that killed you in the videos were sneaking up behind you and not running? I can't help but notice the 3 examples you provided highlighted all 3 players behind you, so maybe that is a possibility?
I've learned throughout my time playing this that it's best to walk going into a firefight when you're 3rd partying because they'll never hear you coming. - @EA_Blueberry I think the footsep sound range should be increased, to increase the impact of crouched sound reduction.
Because as of now, I still get amushed by silent running squads. Usually its a Wraith running at full speed followed by a Pathfinder, and Gibby.
Running footsteps should be louder. - Anonymous5 years ago
@EA_Blueberry No, I don't think so.
Check this one from TSM_Viss (it's from some past stream) : https://www.twitch.tv/tsm_viss/clip/VastEncouragingLouseBrainSlug?filter=clips&range=7d&sort=time
I will put his today's clip later so You can see another example of no footsteps.
There is clearly something wrong with the game engine as it does not emit sounds in some cases.
Please note that the sounds are there when I look at the enemy! So maybe this is a clue.
Another example : https://youtu.be/gC75-ACz4cQ
This one is not so obvious as You can hear footsteps on the staircase (I think it's my teammates).
But please note that when I got shot and turned around I see three characters but on the staircase I could only hear one footsteps sound (and I bet it's only my teammates).
And here is today's clip from TSM_Viss stream : https://clips.twitch.tv/ResilientTameShrimpMingLee
They game audio is bugged, footsteps are unpredictable and sometimes non existent, although it’s a free game w the amount of money they made of it technical difficulties should be keen on fixing instead of focusing solely on the gun play.
I complained about footstep volume too, but for me, it wasn't until after revenant came out. I proposed that his footstep audio file got added to all the legends lol. cause that is what it feels like.
I also think their volume should be boosted a little and reduce all other sounds, especially the person who announces ring movement, i sometimes take off my headphones because it hurts thats how loud it is.
But like the weapons, the audio is not balanced.. You shouldn't be able to hear someone healing a mile away, but for the person healing, they can't hear anyone coming up to them until they are already on top of them.
While the problem is real, ur clip is useless. They coulda easely sneaked up on u by crouching all the way.
Seriously a dev trying to give the community some * excuse to a broken coding that has been a problem since season one? Devs have known of this problem the entire time and choose not to fix it just to * off the community. Nice job slick!
- @DonTrunSolo Exactly, how this "Dev" is trying to make an excuse for an issue as old as the game itself, never fixed and even worst any update, and it's a global issue, every streamer, every PRO have complained about the silent footsteps...
Most of the other sounds are super loud, and footsteps are pretty damn low or even muted.
