Storm Point Is A Bad Map, Can It Be Fixed? I Don't Think So.

Map, Size

Way too big for a game that only has 64 players. The map should be 60% 75% smaller.

I constantly see games where the first ring is still active with less than 50% alive.
If you don't have a Valkyrie Legend on the team, it more or less feels like a run simulator.

The map is so big, random buildings are placed just to make it look less empty.

Player Aspect

Easy to lose line of sight. Aim assisted players could take advantage of the foliage and just mow down people without ever knowing really where they were.

Map, Design

Areas feel underwhelming, while also featuring nothing unique. Areas placed over height create their own issues because If someone jumps off, it's more or less signalling their own death.

Jump pads should have been balloons, but it seems Respawn has the case of, "Can't remove something because we spent resources making it" attitude.

  • @Popa2caps As far as I know, aim assist doesn't work if you cannot see the person. Chances are, these are users using scripts or cheats. Not fully sure, as I don't play Apex with a controller.

    @Midnight9746

Aim assistance works fully through obstacles like foliage, bushes, Rampart's walls, Revenant's ball thing, Edge of Bangalore's Smoke, Horizon's ult and so many more.. I know this directly first hand as I'm currently playing with a controller in Apex Legends PC. It's very easy to test this.

I would like to add that Respawn might have fixed the issue with Bangalore's Smoke in this upcoming patch.

  • SP isn't perfect, but i like it.  It really has grown on me & I think it is just different, not worse or better.  I do agree that it is a little too big, but everything else is just something you adapt to.  Smaller maps like KC mean more frequent 3rd parties.  Larger maps like SP mean more games where you have a harder time finding fights.

Gravity cannons just offer a different risk/reward than jump towers. I would like a little more control of your trajectoryand mid flight with them, but that's minor.

The intermediate buildings between major POI's offer ambush spots and looting opportunities.

The larger, more complex POI's make for more interesting fights, IMO.  More places to hide for healing/charging, more angles, more vertical space, etc.

Just a matter of opinion though.  If you don't like it and want to quit Apex, nobody can stop you.

A simple fix is just don't play when SP is in rotation. Although, shorter map rotation times would help. Playing SP for more than 45 mins is enough to make me stop playing.

I truly feel SP IMO, is just not a great map for BR. Sure it looks pretty, but that is about it.

    To each his own.

@NickBeam27Imho Storm Point isnt that bad, it has its perks.
Mostly with Valk, you can fly for ages when you lift off at the highest peek.
But i can relate. Its a painfully large map, if you dont have "Transport" Char in the Team like Valk, Octane or Path. The map has some really nice Spots like "The Mill" but also some ultra nasty Ones i strongly dislike (Barometer and Antenna, makes no sense to land there with 15 Teams+). Lot of the main action is centered in the magic triangle Checkpoint-ThunderWatch-Launchpad, which is roughly sized 25% of the whole map. But since a lot of ppl just drop Barometer and Antenna, you have only 30% of the players left after the 1st ring closes.

    Map Size

Perfectly sized for what it was intended to do: reduce third partying. Perfectly sized for what it wasn't intended to do: make it easier for cautious players to control the time and place of engagements.
Perfectly sized for another unintended consequence: irritating players with short attention spans.

    Player Aspect

Easy to lose line of sight??? Are you saying a map with no cover whatsoever would be your happy place, because otherwise I'm not sure where you're headed with this one at all. It sounds like you once lost an engagement with another player and are just looking to cast blame on anything at hand.

    Map Design

Not trying to be hard on you here again, but could you be any more vague about this map's weaknesses? "Underwhelming," "nothing unique?" And on what other map, if a player jumps off the edge, are they not signaling their own death. So I have to assume you hate Olympus too? And a good chunk of King's? Oh, wait. You can jump to your death all over World's Edge as well.

Preferring jump towers over grav canons seems like the argument of a player who wants a get-out-of-jail-free card with absolutely no risky downside. I guess you should just stick to King's and WE. Oh, wait... both too easy to fall off of?

@reconzero "Perfectly sized for what it was intended to do: reduce third partying. " , yea sound good in theory but since most of the teams just drop Barometer Antenna Storm Catcher you likely end up 7th party'ed

@r1ggedgame So not really a map problem - more of a player behavior problem? In my experience the exact same thing happens on every map. Estates-Labs-Boxing Ring. Cage-Market-Bunker-Containment. Fragment-Syphon-Countdown. All the same.
