Substantial gameplay difference between platforms

Hello, ladies and gents.

I'd like to open up that I really enjoy this game. What I'm saying here is not meant to hurt the game nor the community. Rather, the opposite.

As my post is labeled, I'm seeing a substantial difference when running across opponents running on a console/joystick/controller. Enough so that as I'm ranking up I'm finding less ability to fight a skilled fight. I'm running into less skill and less ability to respond/fight back, but not because of the skill level of my opponents. Instead it is very apparent that more of my opponents are simply playing a very different game than I am. I've run into similar issues when cross-console play has been attempted in other games.

The lack of finesse that a controller lacks compared to a mouse is a gap that is not being sufficiently bridged when aiming. Strafing, minor dodging movements during a firefight, are what make all the difference between good and excellent player... at least when it matters. But it doesn't against console gamers. Even making exaggerated evasive maneuvers hardly has any effect when trying to dodge a console gamer who has you in their sights. PC gamers get the full effect that small movements save you from a great deal of damage. This is not the case with console gamers.

I can tell these people are not using hacks because when in sniping battles, it's not nearly as easy for console gamers because the autoaim adjustment does not kick in at certain ranges (depending on the magnification a bit as well). Sniping at medium to long range is the only place I find I maintain the ability to dodge enemy fire against all opponents. COD is a game where they've made it too easy so even sniping gets the full auto-track effect. That game is positively horrible as a PC gamer.

Watching several Twitch streams is what truly confirmed this for me though.

I've watched mouse-using PC streamers and controller-using PC streamers, and the two groups are distinctly different. The controller players just run through the game. They all use light ammo weapons because they all just need to get close enough for the auto-correct to kick in and they decimate their opponents. One guy I was watching got a dozen or more kills multiple games in a row doing this same thing. It was clearly obvious when he got into auto-correct range.

Meanwhile PC players have far more difficult games. They also use a much wider variety of weapons because since we don't get auto-aim, light weapons don't have quite the same payoff far more often.

This is a danger to the health of this game. I am being forced to play other games simply because I get sick and tired of losing to people who are definitely playing a different game from me. I know I am not alone in this. I hope the devs take a serious look at this problem.

As this is my first time posting on this forum, I'm not sure if I'm going to get flamed by the console players, flagged or removed by an Admin, or actually get some honest dialog going here. I'm hoping the latter but in my experience it is the former.

Thank you.

  • I agree wholeheartedly. I feel like with any game, it's unfair when it aims for you. I understand that console players can't flick like pc players do, but I don't think that having an aim bot (I'm exaggerating don't yell at me :D) is the right answer.

  • @Pumasterr I play on console and I manage to dodge shots close range (not so much anymore with the volt and devo but I used to be able to lol) even with the aim assist actively hindering me by freaking up my movement. I don't understand how PC players can't do it with the god like movement available to them. Does aim assist act differently on PC?

@SpaceHamster1991 I also play on console. Movement and dodging in particular seems a little harder to do this season. I'm not entirely sure if it's down to the lower TTK and super punishing weapons but I completely agree about the aim assist. I've been thrown off a few times when aiming whether it starts pulling me in a random direction or snapping in to a weird target.
I believe aim assist is weaker on PC.

@Pumasterr if you're referring to the M+K aim assist vs Controller aim assist I believe a data miner proved this is to be a lot weaker than people make it out to be.
If you're referring to the difference in the ease of movement then I completely agree. One of the first streamers I watched for Apex was Aceu and he displayed a lot of things that are near impossible to replicate on a controller.
