Suggestion: "Team Player" Rating

Team -

This game is truly a blast and I look forward to future updates.

As I've been playing over the last few weeks, it's been great to experience being on teams with players who although being complete strangers, will go out of their way to provide support to their fellow teammates i.e. by pinging enemies or supplies, or will even run back into the storm to revive a fallen comrade.  On the unfortunate other end are players who simply loot the carcasses of their teammates take it upon themselves begin a solo campaign, leaving the fallen to either spectate or leave the game altogether to start a new one.  While some may perceive this as merely par for the course of online gaming, it actually becomes immensely frustrating when you or the fallen comrades has contributed to more than half of the kills thus far in the campaign.

I suggest creating a rating system by which teammates can rate the "Team Player" willingness of each of their teammates following each game, much like a yelp review.  No comments or bad-mouthing, but merely a 1 - 5 rating or perhaps a Red, Yellow, Green rating.  This becomes a team-play promoting stat for players to work toward.  When beginning each game we often see the total number of kills someone has, or the total number of scans, etc.  But we often don't know what were getting into with our fellow teammates until it's too late and there exists little incentive for these lone wolf scrotes to adapt to the heart of the game, which is... team play.

  • I think it's a neat feature.
I would rate skill based match making as more important though.
but having both would be nice.
  • I disagree on the skill based match making except if there is a competitive mode. the game is supposed to be random. random equipment random skill level opponents.

  • I’ve actually also been thinking about something like that. But I think it’s a tricky one and I’m not sure it would be a good thing or not. It could lead to a lot of frustration if maybe you keep getting downvoted but really didn’t deserve it. When playing with randoms I very often come across players who get super upset that I don’t immediately rush towards them when they get knocked even though I have like no health or any ammo or whatever. It could turn into some kind of courtroom at the end where you would feel the need to defend your actions. I don’t know. In theory it sounds like a great idea but I just don’t think I would like this at all actually.

I really welcome a ranking system both for teams and both for individual statistics.

Yep, totally agree.  There are nuances to circumstances that players could easily perceive different than others.  Maybe it could be something where instead of players ranking each other after each match, there could be some type of automated rating.  For example, the player would earn points for successfully reviving a teammate or getting them to the beacon.  With regard to pinging, perhaps something to the effect of when a teammate pings a piece of gear, that player would accumulate points if one of there teammates actually picks it up (as opposed to someone just spamming the ping button at everything in site).  Same thing maybe for pinging an enemy.  If that enemy is knocked down then they could receive a certain designation of points and then if the enemy is subsequently eliminated, it would provide bonus points.

I'm just brainstorming because I totally agree that it could be slippery slope for players to rate one another.

    Thanks for your input!

  • Would definitely be nice to have something like this but as others have mentioned it's a easily abused feature, though a counter to this could be to only add good aspects to choose from similar to how Overwatch does it I think (Haven't actually played it so not sure). This way anyone salty that they overextend and died but you didn't rush to their aid won't be able to down vote you even though you didn't deserve it. Also I shouldn't be available in pre-made teams because of the obvious point farming that would go on.

It’s always nice brainstorming ideas! Although the more I think about all this the more I just think it wouldn’t lead to anything positive. I mean what would the end goal with such a system be? To be able to leave a game before it starts because a player looks like he/she possible could be a bad teammate?

Even though some players obviously aren’t the most fun to play with I’m still getting pleasantly surprised over how often I get really nice teammates. Even if they aren’t the best they usually stick with you and do their best to help the team.
