The Gibby Meta slows down the game

I've been watching a lot of ALGS recently and in my opinion Gibby needs a slight rework/nerf. His pick rate per team is probably about 95% so clearly teams value his kit. His ult is fine, but his q drastically slows down the pace of the game, causing many, many instances of teams just waiting out a Gibby shield. In addition Gibby being almost mandatory just reduces the overall team variety which makes the games more boring to watch. I know Valk is also heavily picked, but at least her best ability has some downsides to it such as the delay before launch, predictable trajectory during the first stage, etc. There is literally no downside to using Gibby's q beyond not having it available until cooldown is up. 

There are a bunch of ways you could change the shield. You could give it a finite amount of health, you could make it opaque, you could remove is rez speed increase, make it like a ring so it doesn't protect from the top, make it like an umbrella so it only protects from the top, etc., etc. However it's done I'd like to see it changed so these games don't devolve into poke fests trying to bait out the Gibby q before the fighting begins.

  • @RhokazaAgree it doesnt make sense that with 20 legends 1 is picked at a 95% rate.
    It should be nerfed then he could be replaced with rampart or bangalore?!
    First you have most legends tacticals and even ultimate that can be destroyed... you can destroy Rampart's barriers, Rampart's sheila, Seer's ultimate, Horizon's ultimate, Caustic's gas traps, you can see through Bangalore's smoke with a digital threat, but you can't destroy Gibby's dome generator?? It stands at the center there let it be destroyed or have the shield be 300 damage to be destroyed.
    It is getting out of control ; pros have very different games from the normal players and what they require is incompatible with the majority of apex players.

    The problem is that pros DON'T want to fight until the end... they stand above and below each other in the same building without fighting... I say how about we solve this ALGS problem with a legend that deals lot of cumulative damage to enemies nearby through walls forcing them to leave and be killed outside or to fight or be fought.

    Could be an EMP impact like Crypto but without a drone  and could do damage like a caustic trap over time if players stand in it , it could be instantaneous at the push of a button.

    Yeah, the fact that it can't be destroyed is insane. Rampart barriers are fairly easy to destroy, especially when they are building and they take a few seconds. Gibby's cannot be destroyed and deploy instantly. He is pretty far above other defensive characters. I was thinking about Crypto's EMP too, but if you make only one or two legends able to defeat a Gibby bubble then those legends become mandatory to counter Gibby. Maybe make the shield have a targetable "generator" which can be killed, but it's really small, so it's easy for pros to kill, but more challenging for people at lower skill levels. 

    Either way, you bring up a good point. His play rate in casual games is very low. Part of that is just people wanting to play more aggro when just having fun, but a part of it is just casual teams not having good communication and teamwork so Gibby is less valuable. Whatever changes should hopefully impact Gibby at pro levels, but not nerf him into the ground at lower levels.
