The season is definitely not great, though keep in mind that a part of this drop was to be expected.
A few seasons ago the game hit the highest player peak and well, it's not really always that easy to keep the highest peak of the game.
Currently it's shifting between the average players for it's lifespan and a bit below that, though I think we'll need roughly another month of statistics to see how it'll actually go.
This is also just the playcount for Steam, so it doesn't really say a lot about the overall playerbase as players could switch platforms and so forth.
So we can expect that the overall playerbase dropped by that 17%
And I don’t really care about the prior peak, if the playerbase drops by almost 20% in a single month then there is a problem, especially considering that the trend seem to continue to atleast next season wich is another month.
Why should it be expected for the playerbase to drop like this ? If they would do the right decisions the game would grow and not drop.

This sample isn't random though, this only includes the Steam playerbase so it's not really going to be that accurate.
We don't even know if these players moved to a different platform or of they left, so these are 2 factors that would contribute to it becoming more of an assumption than a statistical probability.
The playerbase had roughly a 46% increase on the Steam platform, which resulted in them hitting a new all time peak in the game.
It's not possible to constantly keep the highest player peak, especially in the current stage of the game where it's unlikely to hit new heights like that.
Statistically it's expected for the game to settle at the average for it's lifetime, as those players typically come due to a specific thing, which could become dull after a while or because they played the game as a one-off thing.
Even deducting the recent % of player losses, with the previous all-time peak it would still result in a net-positive.
24 hour peaks are still pretty much average and not that bad honestly.
You can't realistically keep everyone happy with a game, compromises are made and so forth.
This current season seems like it's more used to lay some groundwork, so it's pretty much expected that players would also drop with something like this.
If they were aware that they couldn't keep the peak amount of players then this was a great decision, because they knew the playercount would drop either way, so they used it to make a season to lay some groundwork so they can make some good changes in the next season.
If the playerbase continues to drop in the next season then it would definitely be time to ring some alarm bells, though if it settles then it isn't that problematic.
- 3 years ago@XHelperZ Why should that sample not be accurate ? If anything then that sample would only be flawed because usually pc players are more committed than console players. And nah man people will not get off steam to play the game on a different launcher. You might find a 3 digit amount of confused people but that’s it.
