Third Party Finish Protection System
Apex Legends Suggestion: Third-Party Finish Protection System
Overview:
Apex Legends is known for its fast-paced, high-energy gameplay, where third party fights are extremely common. This is part of the game’s identity and contributes to the excitement, as well as progression toward high tier achievements like 20-kill and 4K damage badges.
However, there is one aspect of this system that can feel unnecessarily frustrating.
The Problem
When a player is knocked by one squad, it is very common for a third-party team to immediately arrive. In many cases, that third-party squad will finish (thirst) the downed player, even though:
- They did not participate in the original fight
- They gain little to no meaningful reward (especially in ranked, no RP benefit)
- It removes the possibility of counterplay (revives, resets, etc.)
- This can feel unfair and discouraging, especially when it happens repeatedly.
Proposed Solution: Knock Protection Window
Introduce a temporary protection system for downed players, with the following rules:
1. Exclusive Finish Window (First 30 Seconds)
When a player is knocked, only the squad that knocked them can finish them for 30 seconds
During this time, the downed player appears visually highlighted, Or invisible (e.g., different glow colour) to other squads.
2. Third-Party Restriction
Other squads cannot finish the downed player during this 30-second window
They can still fight normally with the team they have decided to TP, just not interact with the knock, If the third party team pushes the initial squad and kills them, the restriction also moves on to downed players and if killed whilst down, it awards a participation.
3. Timer Expiry
After 30 seconds, the protection ends
The downed player becomes fully interactable by all squads again
Why This Improves Gameplay
- Reduces frustration from being eliminated by teams that had no involvement
- Encourages cleaner fights and rewards the squad that earned the knock
- Maintains Apex’s fast pace — third parties still happen, just with less “free griefing”
Adds strategic depth — teams must decide whether to secure finishes quickly or defend against incoming squads
Final Thoughts
This system doesn’t remove third partying, which is a core part of Apex — but instead refines it to feel more fair and rewarding.
It protects players from unnecessary eliminations while still allowing chaos and high- gameplay to thrive.
