"Trans" and "Gay" banned but "Cis" and "Straight" are allowed?

So a friend of mine plays Apex and we decided to play together.  I've enjoyed watching Apex many times on Twitch.tv livestreams, but I was always afraid to try it out.  Playing through Steam, I start up the game and am prompted to create an EA Account Name.  Okay, all of my Twitch friends know me by my username, "ThatTransGirl", so I enter that into the account creator and am met with this:

No trans people allowed?

Oh no, please tell me they aren't saying what I THINK they're saying.

Ok, let's test:

Trains are fine

Oof, ow.  Okay, what about:

Cis is fine, but Trans is not allowed

So Trans is prohibited but Cis is fine?  What about:

Gay is also prohibited

Okay, so then surely "Straight" can't be allowed, unless...:

Double standards suck.

So do they hate ALL LGBTQIA+ people?:

Nope, they like Bi girls, I wonder why

So if you've made it this far, that means they haven't yet deleted this legitimate post about discrimination against players because of their orientation/identity.  You are probably either laughing because you hate us too and think it's funny, or you are outraged because you believe in equality and are against discrimination based on gender and sexual identity.

What I want to know is how is this discrimination going to be remedied?  I had to make this temporary account name just to be allowed to bring up this issue with anyone, but I will never play or buy an EA or Respawn game unless and until this prejudicial treatment of Trans and Gay people is corrected.  If Cis, Straight, and Bi are all allowed, Trans and Gay have to be allowed too.

Screenshotting all of this btw in case my post gets deleted/removed to avoid dealing with the consequences of your actions.

Hey @AngryRainbow, we certainly agree that representation matters.

Apex Legends in particular recently updated the in-game Social Awareness badges to ensure that everyone had access to these rather than just those that had logged in during specific months, which is how they were initially implemented.

While that's maybe a small step, it does allow players a way to raise that awareness and representation you've spoken about.

I understand there's a bit of whiplash when you have things like this in-game but the overall account naming system seems to be at odds with those efforts, so thanks for taking the time to point this out and provide that feedback.

Thank you so much for this, EA_Mako.  No matter what happens with this problem, at least someone has heard and understands.  That means a lot, honestly.

  • @AngryRainbow Did you ever get closure for this issue?
I was banned 2 days ago for saying the word 'gay'. My friends and I were merely testing words that were PREVIOUSLY and PRESENTLY treated as insults, to see what the filter would block. For some reason it blocks [Edited] and [Edited], but not [Edited]. 2 days later I'm banned for saying 'gay'.

And the worst part about it, is that the ban reasoning was hateful content, and the only word listed in the chat log was 'gay'. If EA claims that this is their way to prevent people from using these words as insults, then I can conclude that they're why there are still stupid problems like this in the world.

Pushing away an issue and hoping for the best does not fix anything. This 'good enough' attitude is honestly just embarrassing for such an established company like EA.

CM edited. I had to remove some of the words berceuse of our rules

    • Don't curse or swear. Don't try to get away with it by using symbols in place of letters, too. We all k*** what you're trying to s**.
