On this topic - for me Apex was always about "can I adapt, make it to "top legit" level". Meaning my goal was to be able to play whatever is meta, new map, get comfortable with it. Reach Diamond 4+ in ranked which used to be between 5-8% of top ranked players before Respawn started giving away Diamonds and Masters and before current state where 99% of Diamonds are boosted or bluntly hacking.
Another big part was kinda problem solving / puzzles - I saw people do something be it movement or recoil control or whatever and I had fun figuring it out. Even back in season 9? I made my own no-recoil script which basically did whatever new cheats these days do to a perfection.
I even bought a controller to try to master it but fast enough realized that I am too MNK to join that disabled player pool :D and give up on so many aspects of the game just to be able to shoot better in close range fights. (still pains my eyes to watch Pathfinder "mains" on controller).
Finally I put out challenges to myself to play every legend. Typical cases were: 1. Wattson as I still have not seen good regular grinder who plays Wattson well without cheats and just shooting straight up everyone. I mean skill of fencing, placing ults, controlling space, trapping people etc. So I did main Wattson for a season. 2. Same thing with Crypto.
And I just overall came up with some goals that made game interesting for me because to be fair I had a clear idea that I am not going to get further than borderline Masters in a legit soloq way and at the same time people are very inclined NOT to team up or NOT to play in a grinding way so making 3stack without having friends who play Apex was not an option / multiple times failed experiment especially in Discord LFGs where people rather jump from squad to squad forever (they were doing that back in season 10 and they still keep doing that 15 seasons later).
So I randomly decided each split/season that I will play X legend(s) and focus on tracking or positioning or 1v1s etc.
But now with hackers appearing already on Gold level and community still treating 3v3 as 1v3 1v3 1v3 has become painful experience + I have experimented so much that there is just no motivation to play this game at all.
p.s. on a note of following mobile legends - actually many people play on too low sensitivity (over past 2 months I have increase mine to almost 50% WHILE PLAYING VALORANT - which requires much lower sense than Apex) that allows them to aim / track easier but then they usually struggle with legends like above mentioned + Ash, Octane, Pathfinder. Imo you must increase your sense to a level where you can follow them, feel comfortable looking around the map constantly (doing 180/360 turns, looking up and down = vertical axis) and then learn how to aim with that sense. Otherwise for MNK on low sense = typical controller player = can look only side to side in limited range and shoot well targets that are in front of them, loosing fights when flanked and having 0 or close to that awareness of what is going on, where enemies are shooting from.
