General philosophy for new players:
Dont be discourage by "losing", i.e not winning the match, i.e have realistic expectations. This is not a 1v1 or 5v5 game with one winner and one loser (or draw). Its a game with 3 winners and 57 losers =). I would set achievable goals and gradually increase them, like winning your first 1v1,then getting 3 kills in match, then getting 1000 dmg etc rather than thinking not winning a match is a failure.
Also, I think you should fight as much as you can even if you lose alot, especially during your "new account" matchmaking period. Yes, there is skill that requires training to the macro part of the game, like how to rotate, avoid choke points, predict enemy movement but these things are more of an intellectual thing, i.e something you have to intellectually learn. But 90% of the game IS muscle memory so to speak, i.e fighting and movement. And the only way to become good at these things is to do it over and over and over.
I think one major flaw with the current rank system AND pubs is that its so effective to just jump late and avoid fights if you wanna rank up/get high placement in pubs. It just teaches new player that this is how you should play the game. But the only thing it will result in is that that player will fall behind in the skill curve of fighting and then become hardstucks when they reach a certain rank where this isnt possible anymore.
