What is the deal with missing audio?

Countless times it's just missing when people come close.

  • Ah well you  see, this is Respawn/EA we're talking about. They can never truly fix something because that's outside their pay grade. There are so many issues that have persisted for multiple seasons it's baffling. (For example, Audio, Servers, Hit Registration, how the hell have these three BASIC things not been fixed and we're at Season * 12).

Yup, might be the worst audio of any game I've ever played. Played a short session today - 3 matches back to back, died from no audio from behind.

Its funny cause as soon as I am knocked, audio from behind seems to work just fine - as well as when spectating. If Mirages decoys footsteps can be double the sound of real enemies....then that proves enemy footsteps can be better if actually worked upon.

Audio has been jacked since launch, I think. You'll die to someone running up silently right behind you fairly regularly. You'll also be able to hear any Octane on your squad from miles away and through buildings.

As the seasons go on and on, I hear less and less of the game. Before back in season 3, I could keep all sounds in the 30 volume range with my current headset, now I have to crank this up to 70+ which, yeah... I can "hear" the game, but the audio just becomes ear piercing and the important audio. example: footsteps - still do not exist.

I thought that maybe it was just my headset, but I played other games, I've played sound testers (where it plays different tones/volume/etc), and even music. I can hear all these things perfectly fine, so I'm just at the point where its just like... "seriously?"

I wish EA/Respawn take better care of things. Like, I've also been having connection issues (code:net, cloud, leaf, shoe, etc.), lagging, rubberbanding, etc. I also thought that maybe this was simply the servers, because 1) its 20hz servers, and 2) tons of people have been complaining about it. But I decided to contact support, and legit got told to contact Microsoft support, because the issue may be my installation of Windows, and I need Microsoft's help to fix it. For connectivity issues? Really? This was arrived to after the basic "did you repair game files, uninstall/reinstall, and clear cache?"

Between audio, cheaters/smurphs, and other bugs that still plauge the game, its hard to be excited for new events, LTMs, or anything really. Been holding out hope for a while, but well... have anyone seen Titanfall's servers? The games are still being sold, and Titanfall 1 is simply unplayable, with Titanfall 2's only redeeming quaility being the story mode.

I don't know a whole lot of what goes into the making of the audio system, but too bad they can't pull a lot of the work from Titanfall 2's and rework it. The sound system is amazing.

The only thing you hear in Apex is gun fire, some abilities (Rev's tact to name one), voicelines, and that's about it.

    - Footsteps? non-existant unless its a Mirage decoy, which sounds like there's more than 1 team running around (and thats with ONE decoy)
    - Players running? non-existant
    - Players using ziplines? non-existant

Sometimes when taking off as Valkyrie, I don't hear any sound at all - including gunfire. The game just mutes itself until you get to skydive back down. This even happens when jumping on a Valkyrie's ult (someone on one of the other 2 friendly teams, as I'm usually Valkyrie) when playing control. (I rarely have Valkyrie teammates, so I don't know if it happens in duos, trios, or arenas).

In a past patch, audio would just go completely away or the game's music would randomly play over the match. Now the issue is that I would hear teammate's voicelines twice at the same time. It sounds like someone talking with an echo that's only 0.1s behind. I also checked teammate's mic icon, and saw that no teammate had their mic picking up the game.

Speaking of the game voice chat... it doesn't work. It only has two volume options. 1) You can kinda hear them, and 2) You can barely hear them. Game audio also can play over and completely masks the voice chat. This makes it impossible to hear teammates during skydives or gunfights. (Not that I even use the in-game chat anyways since its terrible).

So what is the deal with missing audio? Yes... aka no one seems to know how it should work, and I remember someone saying the game is built on an old game engine anyways.

The only ones not having a problem with audio, are simply the ones who cannot hear the game to begin with. These people are honestly lucky, because the voice chat seems to work just fine when someone decides to go overboard with it and rage. I'm so happy there's a setting now that only allows friends to talk to you. (Or no one at all).

I mean I really try to listen. Have music turned off just because and use headphones. Most of the times I'm on the mic to warn my teammates because I do hear people. But then - nothing - and I'm dead. I guess sometime people can sneak-walk in. But those are rare since at times there is just too much distance to be traveled in the amount of time people need to get to me.

I keep hearing footsteps all over the place when spectating, and you can never be quite sure if it is your teammate or an enemy.

Yeah, Ocatane has that mechanical leg-sound, Bangalore has the tippy-tap sound and the rest have some sort of carpenter with pockets full of nails and chains-sound to them.

Hahaha, that is hilarious, the "carpenter with pockets full of nails and chains"  - that is bang on! Couldn't have worded it any better. : )
