2 years agoWhat made YOU quit apex?
For the people that quit or barely play anymore but still visit this sub what was the reason you dropped off from the game?

Ok I understand now how what I said can be seen as a little all over the place. The "direction" has nothing to do with the solo ranked experience, which ofc is my choice. If I dont wanna deal with premade duos who will make stupid in-game decisions that they never would have made with a team of randoms, like going for stupid resses on their premade friend instead of finishing the fight etc, then I would have just played premade as well.
But the general direction I talked about is where Respawn is taking the game balance/design wise. For me, the USP of this game has always been the fighting/movement/gunplay core mechanics. I think the outcome of a fight should mainly be determined by which player has the best skills in shooting, movement and in-game wits, i.e the "core skills". The legend abilities should only be there to support those core skills. But IMO, Respawn seem to put more emphasis on abilities or even combination of abilities, rather than those core skills. What I literally hate is when they introduce abilities that make up for LACK of said core skills (scan-abilites that makes up for lack in spotting/awareness for instance) or TAKES AWAY enemy players ability to utilize said core skills (all forms of CC etc). I also hate that many new legends abilities are only positive for the team with no downsides. IMO, abilities should either be double-edge swords OR at least neutral, i.e that also enemies can utilize them.
I guess this is the main reason why I left. Respawn doesnt share the same vision of this game as me =) The solo Q experience is an acceptable negative =)
@HappyHourSumwurI will say that Apex has made me learn to think of weapons, grenades, and abilities in a whole new way, to make them work seamlessly together, not just my abilities, but those of my teammates as well.
But I find myself increasingly interested in starting a match only to walk away from it feeling like, "why?"
Why did I bother? My teammates didn't do anything like they should have. No team work at all.
Why did I come to their rescue? They quit before I could get their banner and that left me vulnerable.
Why did I choose to play Apex and not Halo? Because its the new toy and it feels a bit more expansive emotionally than Halo. But more and more, Halo feels like a solid experience. I went back to Halo and my team sucked, but they tried. They honestly tried. That was so refreshing.
I am increasingly convinced that the lack of team work thinking randoms are the only thing that makes Apex feel like I waste my time.
Yupp, its ofc all about my personal preference, i.e what I look for in a competitive FPS. I have never liked games like Overwatch for that same reason. I came from Quake3 (yes I am old) and the game I mained before Apex was PUBG. Both of those games are very straight forward games. Ofc a lot of skills but its all about aim, movement (not so much in PUBG) and game sense/wits. As a matter of fact, the only reason I left PUBG and went over to Apex was because a friend mained Overwatch and I Pubg and we wanted to find a middle ground game to play together.
Thats why you dont see me on this forum for instance, bitching about the state of Apex etc etc. Hehe I think I am one of the few on this forum who actually defended their matchmaking =) I just accepted that Respawn sees the game differently than me and instead of complaining, I thank for them for the good times and move on and from time to time, I will come back to see whats going on in Apex, just like I did today =)
Just wanna point out that I never was "bad" at using the abilities or understanding the game etc. Many complain about stuff they arent good at etc. I am a OG from day 1 of this games release and have reached Master several times (before this joke of a season haha) and got 4ks on pretty much all legends that I play and also a couple of 20 kills. I just dont prefer the direction which mainly the ability design is taking.
Edit
Also noticed that Respawn havent fixed the micro-stutterings due to prediction error i.e that the game struggles to keep track of your position when you interact with enemies. This is actually one big reason, apart from the legend design thing, that made me quit. So many times you get shot and you get terrible prediction error and mini-freezes. During my game, I got scanned by an enemy Seer and immediately started to micro-stutter, like my FPS dropped to 10 even though it was 144 at all times. Actually game breaking and totally unacceptable in a serious competitive shooter. Respawn must sort this out ASAP
