I'm forced to disagree, the idea is most of these types of items are aesthetic based items. Suddenly making someone have increased damage, range, and overall effectiveness especially in early game, is just asking for trouble.
Most importantly, this just leads us into pay to win. Someone gets a knife, so everyone else needs a buff or special weapon like that, only way to get it is through boxes. Some people might be lucky and get it in a random box, but most people aren't going to see it at all, unless they spend money on the game. Which means anyone who simply can't spend money on it, will always be given a disadvantage to those that can.
