Why do I need xbox live gold to play the game
Honestly this should a thing of the past.
@marcbroadley I think this is something you would need to take up with Microsoft as they are the ones who set the prices for their Xbox services. 🤔

I want to play Apex on the Xbox because my best friend bought me a Xbox so him and I could play together but I have to pay for gold? I thought it was a free to play game and not that there's extra fees included required to play a free game. I think you should be able to play but not play ranked matches cause this is clearly breach of the free to play terms

Xbox is "free", if you want to play online however, you must pay. F2P or not.
PS4 offers this for free on all F2P games like Fortnite and Apex. If you do not wish to pay, switch over and wait for cross playform to arrive.I can play other games online without gold on xbox but only certain games require you to pay for gold and one of them is Apex. And if it's not f2p then it's not f2p you can't "" it and define it as something else when it's f2p..that's just plain manipulation of intent of reason behind a f2p game. Like I said ranked should require a user to have gold but just to play the game should be free to play with any extra loop holes
