Why Old Revenants Silence Should Be Brought Back - Make Revenant Fun Again
Why Silence Should Return
Revenant’s old tactical, Silence, offered a much more unique and interesting playstyle than Shadow Pounce.
I understand why Shadow Pounce is useful. In modern Apex, mobility is incredibly valuable, and Revenant benefits greatly from having a movement tool. My issue is not that Shadow Pounce is weak — it is arguably more consistently useful than Silence was.
The problem is that it is much less unique.
Functionally, Shadow Pounce fills a similar role to abilities like Vantage’s tactical or Octane’s Jump Pad: quickly repositioning or closing distance. Characters should feel unique and now have more or less the same abilities. Silence offered something completely different and gave Revenant a unique anti-ability/area-control role.
You could deny escapes from movement Legends, block entrances, discourage pushes, or even use the visual and audio obstruction to create enough space to heal or occasionally revive a teammate. Its value depended heavily on the situation and how creatively you used it.
That is what made Silence interesting.
The Problem With the Revenant Rework
I understand why older Legends need significant updates because of power creep. Lifeline, Fuse, and other Legends have received major changes over time, but most of those changes improved or expanded upon the original purpose of their abilities rather than replacing their playstyle entirely.
Parts of Revenant’s rework were justified. His passive was improved, and replacing Death Totem made sense because the ultimate was notoriously difficult to balance and could range from extremely weak to extremely powerful depending on the meta and team composition.
Silence was part of Revenants kit that defined his gameplay for years. Imagine if Wraith’s Into the Void were completely removed and replaced with an unrelated ability. She could keep the same appearance, personality, skins, and name, but playing her would fundamentally feel like playing a different Legend.
That is why completely removing Silence feels different from a normal rework. Players who enjoyed Revenant specifically because of his anti-ability playstyle didn’t get a redesigned version of that playstyle — it disappeared entirely.
Revenant Reborn does not need to be reverted. But I also don’t think the existence of Revenant Reborn means the original playstyle has to remain permanently unavailable.
Balance: Why Silence Shouldn’t Be a Problem in Modern Apex
Respawn previously said there were no plans to bring Silence back. However, that statement was made in 2023, and Apex has changed significantly since then.
Silence as a mechanic clearly still has a place in the game. Legends like Seer and Ballistic now have access to Silence effects themselves.
Revenant’s original Silence also had clear counterplay. It was a projectile that needed to be aimed and hit, its area was clearly visible, and its effect was predictable.
Compared to some abilities in modern Apex, Silence doesn’t seem particularly oppressive. Abilities such as Seer’s stun combined with Silence or Axle’s ultimate can offer significantly less counterplay.
If mechanics like these can exist in modern Apex, I don’t see why Revenant’s original Silence would inherently create a balance problem — especially if choosing Silence requires giving up Shadow Pounce entirely.
And that leads to my actual suggestion:
Option 1: Let a Blue Perk Replace Shadow Pounce With Silence
This is the solution I think would fit the current game best. Replace Revenant’s blue Ultimate Cooldown Reduction upgrade with:
Silence — Replace Shadow Pounce with Revenant’s original Silence tactical for the remainder of the match.
This would turn the perk into a meaningful playstyle decision rather than another numerical cooldown improvement.
Shadow Pounce: Mobility, repositioning and aggressive engagements.
Silence: Utility, area control and shutting down enemy abilities.
Importantly, this would not simply buff Revenant by adding Silence to his existing kit. Choosing Silence would mean completely sacrificing Shadow Pounce and therefore his tactical mobility.
Players who enjoy Revenant Reborn lose nothing. They simply choose the other perk and keep Shadow Pounce.
Players who preferred the original Revenant finally regain access to the playstyle they enjoyed.
His purple perks would obviously need to be adjusted so they properly support whichever tactical the player chose.
The Legend Upgrade system already exists to give players meaningful choices about how their Legend plays. Bringing Silence back through that system seems like a perfect use of it.
Option 2: Let Players Choose the Tactical in Legend Select
A more ambitious alternative would be allowing players to choose between two versions of Revenant before the match.
When hovering over Revenant in Legend Select, players could choose between:
Revenant Reborn — Shadow Pounce
or
Classic Revenant — Silence
The rest of his current kit could remain intact. The main difference would be which tactical and corresponding perk tree the player receives.
This would make the choice clear before the match begins and allow both Revenant playstyles to coexist permanently.
It would obviously require more development work than the perk solution, which is why I think Option 1 is the more realistic approach.
Why I Think This Is Worth Considering
I’m not asking Respawn to revert Revenant Reborn.
There are players who enjoy Shadow Pounce, and removing it now would simply repeat the same problem that happened when Silence was removed.
Silence was part of Revenant’s identity for years and offered a genuinely unique playstyle. The current perk system creates an opportunity to bring that playstyle back without removing Revenant Reborn, without giving Revenant both abilities simultaneously, and without necessarily increasing his overall power.
Shadow Pounce doesn’t need to disappear for Silence to return, and Silence never needed to disappear permanently for Shadow Pounce to exist.
Hope the right people read this. Bring back old Silence
