Didn't read the whole thing but CTRL+F'ing 'battle pass' returned nothing. I believe that I read their would be a free and premium version of the battle pass once season 1 begins, apparently some time this month.
If that is true then the sources of free cosmetics may no longer be truly finite. People who do get to level 100 have probably played enough that Respawn deserves some contribution. Though keep in mind they still haven't announced the price of the battle pass or how much it is offering. And I'm of the opinion that all of the current store content has been priced ridiculously.
I do think it might have been more profitable to keep a constant stream of free items going, perhaps regardless of seasons. I don't want to overspend on something that I 'sort of' wanted. And I don't want to take a risk on packs knowing there are a lot of throwaway high-tier drops. Legendary Gibraltar banner frame anyone? My point is that it would be easier to spend just for the good will of Respawn if the buyer wasn't so concerned about the value of their digital commodities. And this would be solved by giving users a chance to earn what they couldn't afford to buy. Or just having better prices.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. If you spent the value of a full priced retail game on coins, they will not get you very far at all. (Just mumbling to myself at this point)
I'll close off by saying that above all it's more important that the game is good, more so than anything I've just typed. I loved games from a time before microtransactions and I consciously detest the thought that a business model is doing more to keep me glued to a game than the gameplay itself.
