I would def say its a just you thing. I cant say I have ever ran into that problem. Unless you found someone with the cheat that allows them to run super fast.
All you see is black and grey? Like the entire screen? If so that might be a question you need to take to your local opticians bud.
If you just mean the character models specifically, then some will inevitably blend into the environment due to their colourings etc.
I used play to bloodhound with a desert skin on Kings canyon and i could often just crouch into a rocky outcrop when i needed to get away and players would charge right past me.
