Yeah, that's normal. That's their "Skill Based Match Maker" matching you up with people of "similar" skill. This means one of 2 things:
1. You're better than a SUBSTANTIAL amount of players, and the only people of similar skill are those level 200s.
2. The matchmaker is not working as intended / there's not enough people playing so it throws you with whoever is there.
It's usually #2 IMO. It really sucks when you're actually good at the game, and you get level 30s on your team vs. a top 500 player. That happens frequently to me too.
Hello there! 🙌
You might not believe it. But from my point of view, around level 200 is not so high. I saw many level 500 players and I am level 350 at this moment. So you were lucky and maybe SBMM worked well then. Next time, you would be surrounded by the Apex Rank (Top 500) players...
Whoever designed SBMM doesn't understand that shooting isn't the only thing that matters in this game. As long as there is no way to quantify skills like fast looting/movement(common sense too smh) etc., SBMM will always work poorly. They don't understand that a level 30 player is still learning the fundamentals and in no way near the skill level of an LVL 500 player even if the lower tier player has the better/same aim.
- @caitlinmarie134 Levels do not really mean much in this game. All that means is they have played longer than you. It doesnt mean they actually know what they are doing.
@caitlinmarie134it's like in ranked too, they keep mixing all the ranks for no reason, the devs are just clueless, they can't/don't understand what a good matchmaking is (aka putting players of the same lvl/rank with and against each other)
@hayhorthey've played longer which means they have a batter knowledge of the map, where the the loots are, where you can climb or hide etc...
- @NaRnIaaa Not always. I've been matched with people who showed high levels who have no clue about movement and other aspects of the game.
@caitlinmarie134Oh I'm only level 260 or so, and lemme tell you: Don't let yourself be intimidated by those players! I just play to my strengths. For you, being newer, I'd try dropping away from other teams? Let yourself get equipped first. I'm "experienced" but I still stick to dropping away from enemy teams most of the time.
Sometimes, those players weed themselves out of the match, leaving you to take advantage of their demise! Not a guaranteed strategy for everyone... but it works for me?
- @caitlinmarie134 Having a squad mate who is higher level can be nice too, if the player adapts to the situation and plays with the squad.
If they communicate and try to help guide the squad to a win it can be fun and help the lower levels learn tactics and rotations. - Levels in mp games mean jack and in apex even more so. When I was lvl 140 there were ppl who were lvl 400+ with whom I sometimes had to play with. Every time I saw someone twice as high as me I was glad cause I figured they'd at least give me less grief than players my own lvl or lower but ohhh no... They managed to disappoint me by doing damage output less than my lvl despite being alive for more of that damage in seconds while we usually hotdrppped.
So dont let lvls fool you. Just let fools fool Yeah what the * i had an arena match im level 15, and my teamates were level 8 and 12 and we were pitted against a level 500, 240 and 95. totally busted we got steamrolled naturally and i quit to start a differnet more fair game and it gave me a 10 minute ban which pissed me off pretty bad
