Hello EA,Opening a new topic on this, as a continuation of:https://answers.ea.com/t5/General-Discussion/apex-legends-restarts-my-pc/m-p/10718743/highlight/false#M179568Please look through the last few pages there where I communicate with C-Sheldon88; as you can see I've tried extensive troubleshooting steps but Apex still seems to crash occasionally on my RTX 3090 GPU, but it doesn't happen with my RTX 2080ti GPU.I reached out to Live Chat and it was suggested to try minimal boot, so I'll give that a go and see if it still fails.In the meantime I'm still following what I think is the most fail-safe procedure of using DDU, setting the temp limit etc.I've seen reports of other people's games / PCs crashing completely on Apex, and I'm not sure what's going on.Any other suggestions would be appreciated, thank you!

Well so far so good!After the clean install update for the graphics driver I've not had a crash again over the week, seems pretty stable on Apex now! Temps for the GPU are still good because the custom fan curve is there, but I leave the temp limit unchanged as there's no need for that it seems plus there's no extra power draw.I guess the current driver has more support for certain GPUs, but a clean install seemed the way to go.Thanks so much for your help guys! @holger1405 Thanks for the detailed reply!I tested with underclocking the 3090 but it made the game freeze instead of the PC powering off, which was worse. Honestly it seems pretty stable again now I've used the DDU & Temp limit ritual, think I'll just do that each time a graphics driver comes out.Interesting note about temp limit, usually I max it out to 91 but it's been stable, though I didn't realise it also affected power draw. With the custom fan curve the GPU sits at a good 72-75degrees instead of around 82, and the stock temp limit is 83 where it seemed to shut off if I leave Afterburner on defaults while playing Apex.

@holger1405 yes, don't defragment an ssd. Even with a ordinary HD it's not a good idea to do it too regularly. Mostly I would use it to defragment fragmented files only, maby after a big update, and a complete defragment maby every 2-3 months depending.Have found the windows defragmenter set to auto, on a few laptops with ssd. Think it's a default setting. Default for ssd should be off!

@holger1405 Cheers for the extensive reply! Yeah I feel the same about updates, always a bit skeptical haha! Generally I do keep everything up to date.Thanks I'll keep an eye on the forums, but ultimately I think I should go ahead with this driver, so I'll do the clean install without Afterburner / anything like that running and let you know how it goes. Fingers crossed!

@holger1405 When it happens it just shuts down completely; no blue screen, and the monitors go black too. So seems like an overheating issue still, but it's strange when I'm keeping everything relatively cool.Only run a Memtest and used Heaven Benchmark but both had no issues, it's still just something about Apex.Haven't tried 3DMark, Time Spy or Firestrike yet, should I try them all? Will start with 3DMark and let you know.My next step though is to try an OS reinstall at some stage, and if it still happens I'll look into a more powerful PSU because the RTX 3090 does seem pretty power hungry.

@Darkness93_ytHey there! From the information im finding online on nvidia forums and such most these cases appear to be PSU related with this card specifically. So it very well may not be enough power for the pc and the card it self which would explain why it can handle your lower end card. Only options I can think of is trouble shooting the PSU to run on rails for testing. I would have to guess it just is not strong enough for your set up. Is your PSU 750+ watts?
If its not happening on other games this still would not indicate the PSU is strong enough. It just means that game is not as resource heavy as apex is.

If PC is shutting down at high power draw, something is not working as it should with the PC. PSU can be an issue with that among many others.

If you are unsure on how troubleshoot the hardware I do recommend reaching out to a PC repair shop to see if they can take a look and find what's causing it.

What are your total PC specs, because like others, it could be a PSU issue.

Also, if you have Windows 10 Pro, could you by chance check Event Viewer and check for errors and/ or warnings to see if something power related is shown.

Don't think it's a PSU issue.
It's an RM850, so 850 Watts which is more than enough.

It seems to be more due to the fact that Apex makes the RTX 3090 run really hot to the point I have to use Afterburner with a fan curve and set the temp limit, which seems to be the main reliable fix.
Without doing that, it would fail a lot more often. Even with the curve & temp limit set though, it still has a chance to just crash when playing Apex. Hasn't today though, but I've had to use DDU and reinstall Experience & the Graphics driver, probably each time.

Some System errors show like this ACPI 2 one and cplspcon one, but I've seen these on other Windows builds at work also. Might reinstall Windows 10 one weekend to see if that helps though.
Appreciate the extra research done; still finding out extra things I didn't know about how Apex handles the 3000 series cards (or similar).

If you reduce the temp limit you also reduce the power draw of the card.

If a game crashes the whole system it is almost always a PSU ruining into the OPP and I saw 3090 crashing system with 1000w PSUs due to load peaks that are fare higher than the TDP.

That it does not happens with your 2080ti is one more hint that the problem is on the hardware side and not software related, there is almost nothing that could crash the entire system, without a blue screen, on the software side anyway.

So imho the PSU is still the most likely culprit here. (Or the power draw of the 3090, however you see it.) 😉

I would either cap the FPS in half or seriously under-clock the 3090 to see if the issue persist.

If not it is one more hint towards the PSU.

It is strange that the game freezes on an under-clocked 3090.
May I ask how much you under-clocked the card?

Otherwise, if it works for you it is fine. 👍

I just got this with completely different GPU, I have RX 6800 XT. Just got black screen and after that reboot.
I don't have any OC set up neither for CPU nor GPU. Just standard settings for both. I am using latest Adrenalin drivers.

@holger1405 Yeah I thought so too, it happened on Battlefront 2 also just at the menu lol.

I could probably decrease it and keep experimenting, but it only knocks a few degrees off the temperature which is already at a good value.

Yeah I thought the same; usually it's been stable after I've done the usuals, but just wanted to target the scenarios where it can still happen for some reason, because precious RP is lost! 😉 Though it is only once or twice a month now it seems.
