I think this is a good idea. I think it would be realistic as well and would make fights much more fair, considering you're at a severe disadvantage when you have a weapon and the opponent only has his fists. I think I would furthermore suggest that every bullet should cancel throwing of grenades or any abilities that are currently in their activation phase. That way I can keep the Wraith from running away. I mean I'm shooting her with bullets, how can she still flail her arms around? Or how can a Bangalore use a heavy smoke launcher while having severe chest pain from the 3 bullets that drilled her?
Jokes and severe sarcasm aside, I feel like people are missing the point of the melee feature. I have times when people intentionally drop near me and grab every gun they can get before me. So now I would have to run away because melee makes little to no sense. While being slowed by incoming bullets unless I have a fortified character, who is slower by proxy. So either way, I lose. Not just will this make people rage quit even more than they already do, but also will this make dropping hotspots redundant. And if I run out of ammo, I can basically just sit still and get killed.
Also, for those claiming that punching is overpowered obviously haven't received a proper punch yet. A well aimed punch can fracture internal organs or knock a person unconscious in one go. Talking about your average punch. The punch of a trained person can do much more and kill a person in a single blow. Just saying. If you don't believe me, get a friend and ask him to properly punch you just a little below your chest. Tell me how long it took for you to get back on your feet.
