Communicating with team mates.

I won't claim that I have all that good game knowledge, but quite often I at least hear people before we're in a fight, or I keep a lookout. If I see a team to lets say the East, and we're rotating, I kind of expect them to still be coming from there and going our way to not die in the ring.

I often go on mic, but a lot of the time my team seems clueless of any enemies + that they do not ping themselves.

Had a guy in the team right now going down 2 times and we respawned him, he killed two people and was probably mostly unlucky that game, but I have no idea if he had coms or not.

1: Is there a way to know if you're muted?
2: tips on how to communicate with team to make them a bit more aware?

2 You can only do so much for your team. I guess maybe use the ping wheel more? Or they just need to git gud.
  • @DrWizardo There is no way to know if you are muted. I currently keep my teammates muted entirely (all of them) unless I am playing with people I know.

@DarthValtrex Entirely - do you mute pings at the start as well?

I'm with you on muting randoms.  I have too much anxieties to recover easily from someone treating me poorly.  Usually I play in party even when I'm alone so I don't have to mute.  My playing buddy is more of a people person and a natural leader, so has a lot of success by using coms with randoms.  Not for me.

  • @DrWizardo I’m playing in Diamond ranked games with randoms who aren’t using their mic. I find this mind-blowing. It’s almost like people don’t realize that not using a mic puts your team at a strong disadvantage.

@Axs5626Sxa5001 Since you mention ranked, I don't solo q ranked but if i were to, I'd be engaged on mic. My pubs randoms definitely have to earn trust before I'll listen though.  More than 9/10 of them have background noise, are playing music, or have nothing but nasty things to say.

I should try hooking you up with my apex buddy sometime.  He's about at your level (has solo q'd to masters) and I think could be an actual fit for you.

@Cheese9Man I guess I'll just have to ping more specific stuff.
It's hard to get people to remember things you've pinged before though. Maybe "i'm watching this direction" but, if you're running for circle... oh well. You can't just type stuff either, especially on controller.

@pandareno1999 Pings I do not mute as they are useful. I still try to communicate and will turn it on here and there. But yeah for the most part I keep mine off most matches. There are different reasons as to why. Sometimes I have background noise going on and other things.

I also don't want my personal audio ending up in someones stream, that is the main reason. I am not okay with someone recording me without my knowledge for numerous reasons.

Yup, there are a lot of clueless people in this game. But I also have to say that the ping system is far from perfect. Your hypothetical is a great example why. If I saw the same squad off to the east and then pinged them... 90% of my squadmates would assume I meant "push" and they would run in that direction as fast as possible. Whether their third teammate (me) did or not. Whether the circle was about to crunch them or not. Whether they were going to lose claim on best in-circle map placement or not. People just don't think beyond the end of their nose in this game. It's like saying "squirrel" infront of a golden retriever.
