EA confirms Apex is dying
This is the second time I believe that EA has said Apex has underperformed financially (first time was January this year). Respawn/EA continue to prove they're out of touch with the community & don't...
last good season with any substance was season 11 with ash, the C.A.R and stormpoint. Even though to date i still think stormpoint is garbage game design and easily worst map, at least it was new content.
ever since its just been uninspired legends no one asked for, minor map changes and like 1 new weapon???
season 12 was mad maggie… that was it. Olympus got glowy boxes and that 1 tiny new poi with the loot portal
season 13 was newcastle…. That was it. And that 1 tiny poi on stompoint with the monster carcass
season 14 was vantage… that was it. I honestly dont even remember what changes that season because it was so forgettable and a waste of memory in my brain
Season 15 was catalyst and the moon map. Ok new legend and map. Except the new legend was pretty trash cus scans were OP and went through her ult still despite it being designed to counter scan legends 🤡 moon map, never played it but considering the track record of new maps i cant imagine it being very good.
season 16 was the nemesis weapon and that was all 🤣🤣🤣
season 17 was ballistic… that was it.
now season 18 is revenant has a rework… and thats it.
does no one see the major lack of any content?? Coupled with the fact there has been no improvements to how the game plays. Matchmaking is still bad. Battle pass has had 0 improvements. Skins have tripled in frequency. They are charging full price events for recoloured heirlooms and mythic skins which all look terrible.
compare apex now to early seasons. Especially seasons 3-8/9
season 3 has crypto and OG worlds edge which was godly + charge rifle plus first time we got the winter express mode
season 4 had Og revenant, sentinel and major changes to worlds edge with the addition of the harvester and the giant lava crack through the entire map which effected the vast majoriry of poi’s
season 5 had loba, introduced treasure packs which have not been improved since and have been left to rot. There was the lore pve missions that you played through. Big changes to kings canyon with skull town destroyed and the treasure vaults
season 6 had rampart, the volt, added crafting into the game. Worlds edge got major new poi’s.
season 7 had horizon and Olympus
season 8 had fuse, 30-30 and a whole new area of kings canyon at the top
Season 9 had valk, the bocek and arenas added. As well as changes to olympus with the new infected ship etc.
season 10 had seer and the rampage as well as major changes to worlds edge
its night and day. Up to season 11 is actually good, after season 11 it drops off a cliff
Yeah I have been playing regularly since season 4 & it's become increasingly evident that we're getting less & less content. I think you're probably right about it being a skeleton crew because it is kinda telling that all the key Devs left. I also agree that Storm Point is garbage: they should have learnt their lesson with King's Canyon that lots of slopes are a bad idea & there's no point in having such a large map. The last few map updates have been questionable, apart from Olympus last one that fixed choke points they have just added unnecessary POIs or changed things in such a nonsensical way. The majority of the lobby still lands Frag & now Capitol so WE is still a bad pubs map; they basically fixed nothing. I am kinda thinking they haven't quite finished the SP map changes so we'll get it at the halfway point when the map rotations change. I love Catalyst, but her tactical has been broken since launch (doesn't always activate or deploys the wrong way) & her ult got broken when they "fixed" it (it doesn't always deploy correctly so you end up having no cover). Broken Moon is a great map imo, very few bad spots & the zip rails are one of the best features they have ever added; just a shame that Horizon is still polluting the map & game as a whole. It's also the first & only map I have gotten a 4K damage badge on. Yeah the Nemesis is still OP unfortunately & the lead balance Dev said it was in a good spot 😅
@RockScorpion384 Yes, this analysis is correct. The game has been downhill feeling since season 11.
Sadly, doesn't mean it's dying. Just means the game has hit the phase called 'Maintenance Mode' - they got to give just enough 'new' each season to justify the Battle Pass. It can limp along like this, cycling the Types 4 and 5 for years yet. Each year making profits because re-color skins are cheap to make but sell fast or get people to buy Battle Passes.
It's just gonna be mostly level, and limp along, like WoW and Destiny 2. Not dying, but not really growing anymore. Long timers will still play because of sunk costs. New folks will come in, maybe sticking around long enough to go from Types 4 and 5 to Type 3. The Types 1 and 2 will stay till they can't anymore, or find a new game that gets them the same or better views. They can't leave. They made it their jobs. They can't leave till they find a new job that fits their skills, and isn't already filled by it's own Types 1 and 2 (so games like Fortnite and Valorant are out, they need A NEW ONE).
It's really an ugly cycle for Games as a Service.
I don't know what you mean about types, but it is rather depressing that they're letting the game die (in the sense that is just on life support). They're releasing just enough content for people to still play, but not enough meaningful changes to improve it. Less map changes, can't even remember the last time we had a town takeover (Lifelines one is out the way so next to no one ever lands there & it's terribly designed anyway so you can get shot in every direction).
