I'm not sure if this is correct, but I always thought anti-cheat software just takes a snapshot of the users RAM and checks it with an online database? Running an algorithm to detect malicious software would consume a ton of resources I would think.
PCs without dedicated hardware in some form will always have a cheating issue. There was talk of Microsoft bringing their DRM (Like Xbox One, Series has) over to Intel and AMD chips in the future, but nothing currently using it I think. Could just be a server thing.
Apex Legends runs Easy Anti Cheat. The company has 17 people working for 200+ games give or take. Apex legends on PC is doomed.
