Forgot how bad the last few days before a new season are . . .

All the cheaters, smurfs, and 3 stacks are out in pubs warming up for S20.  The solo queue life is agony around this time of the season.  Just sayin'

Amen, brother. The last few days have been ugly. And the sad thing is that this is a cake walk compared to how the first two weeks of s20 are going to go. Look up the word s**tshow in the dictionary and it will say, "The first two weeks of matchmaking in season 20 of Apex Legends."

@reconzero So do you think it might be a good idea to avoid ranked for the first couple weeks? Maybe it will be possible to get a higher rank if I wait to do my provisional matches until then.

From my experience, the first week or two of ranked in a new season tends to have a lot more variance as you get both current players rushing to start the new ranked climb and people coming back to check out the new changes that may not have played for a bit.

Provisional matches are gone this season as well, per our patch notes. 🙂

With everyone getting reset to 1 RP, the first few days of ranked are going to be as close to purely random matchmaking as we'll ever get.

Yeah man, the last couple of weeks, even, are pretty bad in pubs. Seems like all the casuals are done with BP and taking a rest, leaving those of us who are still playing as cannon fodder.

Usually, we don't play at all for the last two weeks of a season, but we've been having such a fun time this season that we played anyway. I went from slaying in our mixtape warmup to literally not getting a single kill over the course of an hour in pubs.   I switched to a throwaway account halfway through because I couldn't take watching my stats take such a hit after working hard this season.

I usually wait a day or two before starting to play ranked. By doing this the 3 stack grinders are already out of my lobbies. If you wait too long the smurf accounts will enter because viewers will certainly want to see this pro streamer pulling his 15th rookie to masters on every legend content video.

Speaking of this pro smurfing, seriously why doesnt EA / Respawn see this as an issue in terms of game content. Viewership is down because its the same dull content day in day out.

Thank good 30-30 gets nerfed and atleast we see some new weapons being played 🤞

My personal advice is to avoid ranked hoppers, any game, any time. For me, I already know exactly where I stand on the skill ladder without subjecting myself to the pain and soul-crushing humiliation of a rank chase. But if you have no such reservations then I would still say that you should give it a couple of weeks before you start. Give the masters and predators time to work their way into their own lobbies. Getting slaughtered by them doesn't make you a better player or teach you anything about the game that you can't better learn some other way. Respawn can give them a couple of weeks of free kills if that's what they think is best for the game, but they're not getting those free kills off of me.

    "Pubs should have random matchmaking."

I'm gonna go ahead and disagree in principle, but in practice pubs comes a little closer to random than I'm comfortable with. So I guess we both win on this one. Or lose, depending on how you choose to look at it.
