Friend HWID ban for a pretty silly reason following a report.

Greetings. (I'd preferably life to appeal this directly to a Respawn employee if possible, But EA employee could work too)

My friend was given a last warning for rude/negative attitude and crude and crass language and was subsequently HWID banned after an interaction in game which I do not believe is consistent with the previous reasonable bans against his account. He has never cheated or deliberately lost a game. All of this is just due to toxic banter between players.

He has since given up trying to appeal the ban (after being denied the appeal).

The last and final report was during a 3v3 arena match in which the third teammate reported him.

His Lifeline was picked by the other player, and after a few rounds he (And I believe he only asked this, no further interactions) asked the player "Why pick lifeline and not buy backpack" - This is the interaction which ended up being the last resort on his account.

I've played apex for a long while now, and I only ever play it with my friend. In that, the HWID ban therefore affects me as well as I have quit the game too.

I'm certainly not asking that you forgo all and every other report that was directed against this individual, but rather that he get put back on thin ice once more seeing as his reply that he got during the appeal process was that he was "insulting in the past, (And this part I'm paraphrasing) and therefore the ban should still go through", even though this last report wasn't exactly an insult. It was a question

The reason why I believe this to be so strange and unjust is that I was the one who said it first via discord chat to my friend, to which he then parroted the question to the Lifeline, and for that I feel incredibly guilty for being the person effectively responsible for the last report that got his account banned.

For more context: We both play your game from South Africa. We are not exactly able to simply buy a whole new PC in order to attempt to play your game again, and I'm quite happy to take the blame on my account for the last negative interaction we had with that player, if truly you think that someone deserves to be punished for that question that we asked, it should be my account that takes that hit.

Furthermore: Due to the HWID ban being applied to my friend's entire EA account, all of his Origin games have been taken with this ban too. We can't even play Dead Space 3 together. Which isn't even one of Respawn's games. I am referring to this to illustrate just how much this has affected our ability to play outside the game of Apex as well.

Respectfully: Given the history of respawn's publisher and their track record. Do you not think that perhaps, non-cheaters should not get such a harsh judgement laid upon them as to have both their account AND their hardware ID permanently banned?

I can completely understand this sentiment with players who are intentionally losing the game, botting or cheating, but this kind of toxicity (And worse) people get away with on a daily basis. It's only that Arena battles (which we almost exclusively play) is far more fast paced and incredibly competitive that players receive so many more reports, at least that I can assume, please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Apologies for rambling, but this ban happened about a year ago, and I really, honestly and truthfully believe that neither one of us will be subject of a negative report of any reasonable severity (And if you truly think my friend still deserves a more appropriate punishment, why not chat/communication ban him for a year or so instead of something so permanent as a hardware ban which in my opinion should be reserved for cheaters)

Please understand that policy and protocol need to be tempered with a little bit of context and humanity. I'm asking you to reconsider this particular ban due to the severity that it affects more than just one player and someone else so implicitly as well as the actual owner of the account, far from the boundaries of just your game.

Lastly: To point out just how much I'm willing to believe that this will be the last negative interaction between us and any players in EA or Respawn's playerbase. I'm willing to put my own account on the line as a means of leverage to get this re-appealed on my friends, seeing as my account is now effectively just as useless without this person to play with, as we effectively play all games together.

Please, I'm just asking that you truly reconsider the actions taken against the account with a modicum of context.

Feelingfail is the player I'm referring to.

Regards.

  • @Synergy0909 Not much can be done here. As cheese said normally it takes a cheating software to get a hwid ban. Maybe your friend was up to something else.

Also I really doubt that one comment was what caused a ban. Surely either more was said or there was another instance.
  • As others have stated those bans are normally given out automatically by the anticheat software.

I can definitely appreciate that you're trying to help a friend out here.

As you mentioned, bans can affect more than just one player, absolutely.

Similarly however, toxic chat and behavior also affect more than just one player and when one player's actions affect the experience of those around them, that's something we take very seriously.

Unfortunately there was a bit more to the interaction you mentioned than that one question. As others have mentioned this can only be reviewed by our ToS team, and only at the request of the account owner, not by someone else on their behalf.

If your friend has reached the limit on his appeals and they've declined to remove the penalty, that would be final and not something we'll be able to change on the forums either, sorry.

Perfectly reasonable response from a representative of a company that is clearly infallible.

I frankly couldn't give a rats arse how seriously you take the toxicity of your chat. It's not up to the standards of hardware banning a player, regardless of how often they infringe.

It seems that any staff representative in any corporate company has an excel sheet of "Ooh's" and "Aah's" remarkably similar to how any political representative apologies shallowly to some horrible deed on social media.

Frankly. Your rules hold players up to a standard much higher than most games EA has brought out over the last couple of years.

But hey. Your ticket is resolved buddy. Exceptions can't be made.

Stunning how much logic I can fill a couple of sentences, right?

Stunning how a gaming company can treat you as a fallible piece of garbage, permanently:

But when they buy out your favorite developer and liquidate it? Or when they remake a game into a * for-profit-only kind of game.

Yeah. Respectfully and all, EA. Your dungeon keeper mobile atrocity of a game is a perfect example as to why you should never ban players permanently.

Because you guys really are a sickening conglomerate of hypocrisy.

Perfectly acceptable to keep to the rules when banning players, but please forget our other wrongdoings as a company while we sit high and mighty on a pedestal of previous failures.

You're welcome to close the thread any time you feel. As it's your prerogative, EA. But until then I'm still going to talk about how utterly reprehensible your attitude is toward everyone, and how you expect everyone else to treat your failures.

Your rules are about as bogus as Anthem was.

@Synergy0909 Fair enough, as this thread is no longer about Apex and the original issue is not one we're able to address on the forums, this thread is now closed.

Have a great rest of your week folks.
