Game Ending - Which do you prefer?

I watch a fair amount of Apex on twitch. Quite a few different people, many that play ranked at a high level. If you do not know, ranked this season has taken on a pretty large change. Because KP is unlimited, many players are 3 stacking, roaming zone edges looking for kills. The valk, horizon, seer meta is also making this more possible. People in general play ranked a lot more aggressively. This makes the lobbies die off a lot faster than they used to. This is even happening in some tournaments. A lot of pros that have been playing comp for a long time hate it. Some, who are used to early rotations and waiting for end game are getting killed by these aggressive team. Sometimes these aggressive teams get 3rded and also die. The games almost never get down to the zone fully closed. So my question is this-

Which type of game do you prefer-

1 - Older traditional Apex, with multiple teams waiting for end game.

2 - Newer Apex with all the aggression.

I myself am torn. I liked the old way because the chaos at the end resulted in some pretty cool plays but it almost always felt a bit RNG to me. Yes, you could do things to reduce the RNG by playing Caustic or Wraith or Valk and making a play at the end but that seems a bit wrong that a legend at the end has an advantage based on an ability. This is, after all a gun game first right?

I have been enjoying watching the aggressive play. You see more fights and less pointless wall bouncing as they wait 15 to 20 minutes for the game to progress. The best fighters with awareness usually win.

I'm not sure there's a wrong answer here. I've seen both methodologies produce the desired results, and I've seen both founder on stupidity and/or bad luck. The only thing I can say with certainty is that the vast majority of my matches are a squad of players who are not on the same page when it comes to the caution/aggression continuum. And that is a recipe for almost certain failure. So one more time I'll suggest to Respawn: please stop matching on whatever it is you think makes a player skillful, and start matching on playstyle.
  • @reconzero @Totally agree and it can start to be done with the stats already in the game.  It would be brilliant too, what should have been done in BRs for a long time coming.

@reconzero When if an aggressive player wants to chill or a chill players wants to practice being aggressive? How would those people get lobbies they want?

It wouldn't be a perfect system, but it couldn't be any worse than what we have now.

That said, back in the day Halo Reach had what they called a psych profile. The player answered some basic questions about their attitude and play style and the game would supposedly use that information in matchmaking. It didn't, of course. Too many other criteria to take into account. But it was self-reported and could be changed by the player at any time. If this game used something like that as the primary matching data, with or without a skill filter, I have to think it would be more satisfying... well, for me. I can't speak for anyone else. But it is definitely what I would prefer.
  • @dSKyNafinchin yeah this. They just stand there running around. Don't know, to me it looks like they want to find every gold attacchment for their weapons before going into a fight, which is totally unnecessary.

Why can't they just take 2 weapons and be ready to go? I hate this looting culture so much, it seems to be so pervasive. That's why I thought that maybe I should squad up with someone instead of randoms. Thing is, one, I do not have a mic. Second, I can't speak english. And third, I am trash at gunfights so I will be a detriment to them anyway.

But at least I won't stay in the same area for forever, for no reason at all. It is just boring and a waste of time honestly.

@AcidicSoda44031 Couple of my mates will literally run past guns when we land because they don't want "those" guns.
Mozam and P2020 are not useless when all you got is a couple of fists and an Octane stim.
Wrecks my head. But then when I solo queue I get the biggest loot hoarders you could find online.
But to answer the question, I love the chaotic endgame.
Yeah some legends do determine the outcome with defense and such but the ingenuity of how pro teams would overcome those obstacles is always intriguing to me.

100% agree with this! This remains to be my favorite ALGS moment of all time. Just snipedown with the power of his BH heirloom. Lol.
