I don't know about the ranked matches, but I had to play as Bloodhound 12 times. I can imagine some people were doing a series of suicidal runs? I actually try to accomplish other tasks and not be the barnacle on someone's hull.
It's what players do when they want to avoid the current match they are in. If they are high enough they will lose RP and rank down but if they are high ranked enough it would take them throwing like 5+ matches and then clean up on the 6th and repeat, that would be very boring. But the game can't currently detect that intentional behavior. Which is good, I do it a bunch, but only to avoid hot drops in ranked, since I don't feel like playing with toxic hot droppers and I don't want to eat EA's 10 minute ban by actually playing the doomed match. If you fly off the map your flag can't be grabbed so you can leave right away.
This functionality will probably be maintained because if we were FORCED to play in each ranked match, then players who engage in toxic gameplay (hot dropping) but not toxic chat will continue to be enabled. As a player I can't ban toxic hot droppers, I can't give them suspensions, I can't remove their current rankings to punish them for their bad behavior. So currently all I can do to preserve my positive attitude is end that match ASAP and get in another one, and self termination is the best way we have at the moment to achieve that. Now if the dev's altered that so we are forced to stay in all matches all the time, then the only thing I can do is be more toxic than the rest. If you played Elden Ring, you basically have the aim to be the Lord of the Frenzied Flame. Gotta burn the toxic hot droppers down by being more toxic before we can force them out of the game and then build the community up again. It ain't pretty but it if you see that many people sailing off the map at the start, you have your reason(s) why.
