Gaming used to be a hobby but has grown into big business. Makes sense to me that it would extend into pro leagues that would encourage people to make a game their life. The extension of that is that more and more people take it more and more seriously.
I never thought I'd watch someone else play a video game until I started playing Apex. Now I do because Battle Royale is really a perfect format for competitive gaming. If you grow the teams beyond Apex's Trios, it becomes unwatchable. Just a bunch of flashing colors on the screen, which is what competitive Overwatch is to me and that gives me a headache. But Apex has just enough of the right things to where I can follow it and appreciate how it's being played.
