@DarthValtrex Skill based matchmaking impacts your initial drop and early game. For instance, you have Player A (high skill cap) vs Player B (high skill cap). Player A and Player B land in the same area, but due to RNG, Player B is unable to find a weapon within the first few spots he checks. As the result of Player A finding a weapon and having superb aim, he proceeds to insta kill Player B. Before SBMM, another layer or RNG existed (player skill). So if Player A is a lower skilled player and misses a few shots this allows Player B to escape. Now if you get a string of poor RNG in a high skill cap lobby this can lead to a string of 10 plus games of frustration.
In a game like COD everyone is of equal health and has weapons, so skill is the only determining factor.
You don't have to agree with me but that's what makes this games SBMM so frustrating for my friends and I. I've actually started playing other games because I'm not having fun. Every game is punishing and like a ranked game but there is no reward for your effort. I don't enjoy beating up on new players, I enjoy the randomness of fights that it provides. You win some and you lose some. You have fun along the way.

@n1xon99 Well, if player A lands in the same area as player B while being aware that they have the same high skill, he's doing it WITH the RNG in mind, aka gambling 🙂. Highly skilled players have looting stratagems, always considering a way out if "Mozambique here". This is why Apex is more interesting and complex than COD.
- 6 years ago@DoYaSeeMe The arguement isn't about how much SBMM impacts the initial drop, it was if it did at all. My point is that it adds another layer of RNG which can be frustrating, not that one issue ruins the game. Also you can't always just land somewhere else because you aren't always in control. So you can land away from your team and die because your solo or stick with your team to fight for weapons. Yes, Apex is more complex than COD and that's why SBMM impacts the game more.
- DarthValtrex6 years agoHero (Retired)@n1xon99 I think it really subjective on where you land as to how close you can stick with your squad. Some areas are better suited for it than others. Some areas sort of require hitting different buildings (overlook comes to mind).
There are benefits and risks too landing in the same building or not. If you all land in the same multi-level building everyone will probably have one gun and enough ammo for 1 fight. That said, not everyone is going to have armor. The risk of getting picked off one by one is lower, how ever.. If the enemy team each take one building, they are going to all have armor and be better looted overall.
If you each take one building, the risk of getting picked off one by one is higher. But you'll all be better looted overall. Which will put your squad in a better position to fight the other squad.
It's really a pick your poison situation.- 6 years ago@DarthValtrex I'm well aware of how to effectively drop. My point is that SBMM makes this process harder and more stressful. This combined with the other issues of SBMM makes the game less enjoyable.
